This is a marvelous vintage very important Navajo turquoise sterling silver bracelet handmade by the famous Navajo artist, Verdy Jake. Verdy is one of the most talented silver work artists of our time. This outstanding piece contains 8 phenomenal All Natural chunky RARE GEM GRADE LONE MOUNTAIN. Blue spiderweb turquoise stones. The surrounding silver works are remarkable and include swirling stems, raindrops, and ropes. This bracelet consists of a heavy triple silver shank cuff with the center shank being a thick silver rope. The largest stone measures around 1/2″ x 3/8″. The width of the bracelet measures around 1-1/4. Signed by Navajo artist, Verdy Jake. The inside end to end measures around 5-1/4″ with an additional 1-1/4″ gap. Made in the U. Verdy Jake (one of the many working female Navajo silversmiths) grew up in a family with thirteen children. Her oldest brother began silverwork and then taught the rest of his siblings, including Verdy. She has been active since the 1990s. Her hallmark is a V. Verdy lives at Smith Lake on the Navajo reservation. She is in her thirties and has four children. Verdy is known for her traditional revival silverwork. My thoughts about Verdy’s work. The Lone Mountain Turquoise mine, originally called the Blue Jay mine, is located near Tonapah, Nevada. The Lone Mountain Mine was first claimed by Lee Hand in 1920, but is now owned by Gene Wadell, and operated by Chris Lott. Though most of the Turquoise coming out of the Lone Mountain Turquoise mine today is of a clear blue natural or with very little matrix, the mine is actually famous for it’s beautiful blue Spiderweb Turquoise. The Lone Mountain Spiderweb Turquoise which made the mine famous is a medium blue to a gray blue with black and mahogany brown fine spiderweb matrix.
