Native American Indian Crow Beaded Mirror Bag Brain Tanned Leather Fringe RARE
Native American Indian Crow Beaded Mirror Bag Brain Tanned Leather Fringe RARE. They specialized in fine art and Native American Indian work. All handmade and one-of-a-kind. I was told this is a Crow design. I do not know its age. The leather is either moose or deer (you can still smell the smoke). I think the beads are all old. The strap has red wool trim too. There are brass bells on the ends of the straps. It measures approx 8″ tall plus 10″ of fringe and 5.5 wide. When you are finished, you can check out. We are happy to accept local pickups. Early Rare Crow Indian Pipe Tomahawk Forged Spontoon Head Gun Barrel Bowl 1780
The pipe tomahawk is in excellent condition with no repairs or damage. Spontoon style head patterned after the pike heads of the Spanish Conquistadors and explorers. Nice head forged from the barrel of a gun. Octagonal barrel and rifling inside. Looking closely, you will see the seam where the hardened bit was forged in to the shoulder of the tomahawk, commonly called a lap weld or lap seam. A good sign of authenticity and age. Walnut wood haft is original to the head. The brass tacks are original old square shank tacks. All along the haft are many ceremonial file branding marks made by placing a file or rasp in the fire until it was bright red and then burning the file into the haft. This was done for aesthetic “looks” and ceremonial purposes. There is a drilled hole for attaching drops or beads. The head is ever so slightly loose, the result of the wood drying and shrinking over the course of 170 years. A hide or leather gasket is seen between the eye and head. VERY NICE patina all over, really shows its age! The unusual style head is very desirable. Conservatively dated to 1780 but may be earlier. The haft of the tomahawk is measuring 21.5″ long and the head is measuring about 8.5″ long. Please ask any questions you may have. Thank you so much for looking! GOFF NATIVE AMERICAN PHOTO. Up for sale is this one of a kind authentic piece of Native American and photographic history! The subject of the photo appears to be a scout affiliated with the Crow tribe. The mans belt is certainly constructed in the Crow style, that is, it has both beaded edges and metal tacks decorating it. A unique and curious feature of the subject is his hair style. T is unusual for him to have the sides cut/shaved so close to the head when Crow men would have long hair and the pompadour styled front/bangs. This feature only adds to the allure of this photo. Also notice he is not holding his traditional weaponry but rather a sword of the U. Army indicating his involvement likely as a scout. The markings on the back of the photo only add more intrigue. Goff was a famous photographer of the mid-late 19th century who made Native American people the subject of many of his photos. He is most famous and best known for his iconic photo of Hunkpapa Lakota leader Sitting Bull. As you can see, however, this photo is marked A. Goff, most likely referring to his wife Anna. They were wed in 1875. So this photo was likely taken sometime in the last 25 years of the 19th century. Also of note is that the location is stamped on the back as, Fort Custer, Montana. Fort Custer was established during the Indian wars in the Department of Dakota by the U. Army to subjugate the Sioux, Cheyenne and Crow Indians near present-day Hardin, Montana. It was built in 1877 and in use until 1898. The photo cabinet card measures 6.5″ x 4.25″. Shows signs of age and wear with some water marks and small tears. But overall the image is complete and, in my opinion, the true antique condition of this nearly 140 year old photo only enhances the way it captivates the eye. Would look amazing framed! Truly a priceless one of a kind piece deserving to be displayed. Ith Perfect Feedback Score! Check It For Yourself!
