Authentic Native American Hand-Crafted Traditional Beaded Breastplate RARE
Hard to find and Very Nice Collectors Piece! Beautifully Done (OLD) Hand crafted Native American Breastplate with Authentic Beads, leather and bone. Beads appear to be turquoise stone. Breastplates were worn for protection in battle and hunting. Many believed that by wearing one made in a specific fashion. A spiritual advantage was obtained during hunting and battles. Breastplates are handcrafted from long bone beads which are strung on long cords with spacer beads and leather between them. Although the breastplate did not always provide the Native American warriors the necessary protection against bullets and arrows, they were revered for their decorative or medicinal qualities. Aside from a functional use for protection, they were and are still worn today in traditional dances and ceremonies. Made by Northern Woodland Tribes; Artist believed to be a part of Menominee Culture. Our collection of North Woods Native American Pieces were saved from a cabin being torn down, new land owners were rebuilding. At one time the cabin named was “Lost Axe” and the owners that were Husband and Wife died long ago; They were believed to be affiliated with the Menominee Indian culture.
