Great amazing vintage piece by Shows Studios Andrew Shows. Rare find: Their pieces tell a story. Here is a magnificent one if a kind piece in Sterling Silver with a Navajo bear and man in the moon scene Pendant. Jet Turquoise Coral Mother of pearl Gaspeite inlay. The piece was made by long-time Santa Fe artists Andrew Shows, who together since 1978 run Shows Studio. This duo and their studio are iconic in Santa Fe, and you can find their pieces on the market for hundreds of dollars. Now their jewelry is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Indian Art and Culture in Santa Fe, NM, though they are among the few non-Indians selected. Frank Yellowhorse Sterling Silver & Multistone Inlay Bear. Leather cord with lobster claw clasp. These limited one of a kind pieces are extremely rare. Custom artwork Sterling Silver & Gem stones. This vintage Navajo necklace was hand crafted by well known silversmith Frank Yellowhorse (2/14/33-8/13/2020). The pendant measures approximately 2.5″ wide and 2″ high and is suspended from a large sterling bale. The detail of inlay in this piece is simply amazing. Yellowhorse utilized turquoise, malachite, jet, orange and purple spiny oyster. The pendant is stamped Frank Yellowhorse, Navajo, sterling and with an imprint of his signature horse. The pendant weight is 37.7 grams total.

Saiyatasha, the Rain Priest of the North, is an important katsina whose only appearance is in the Shalako Ceremony. It is he who controls the weather, provides longevity to the people and protection from their enemies. Zuni informants once described his function as bringing long life to the Zuni people. His short right eye is to make the lives of the witches short and his long left eye is to provide for long life for the good people. During his period of impersonating Saiyatasha, the Zuni man holds a position of great responsibility, power and prestige and assumes the rank and importance of one of the major priests of Zuni. It is he who must decide the ceremonial calendar for the year and must watch over the phases of the moon for the full year. He sets the date of the Shalako Ceremonies and insures that they do not conflict with other ceremonial events. He must learn all of the lengthy prayers, chants, and speeches while attending nightly meetings that last from the Zuni New Year until Shalako. In addition, he is required to make journeys to springs from four to eight miles distant to offer prayers each month during the year. He must also pray to the sun each day and work to prevent the frosts of spring and fall since he represents a katsina who makes the days warm. This is an impressive rare vintage Zuni collectors piece. You are looking at a wonderful old 1950’s Zuni handmade Saiyatasha design bolo tie made of sterling silver and raised mosaic multi gemstone inlay. At first I thought this bolo was possibly a Leo Poblano piece then I found a matching published bolo made by the talented Dexter Cellicion (see picture#1). So we will stick with Cellicion. Notice the details on this tradition Native treasure piece. Also notice the awesome BIG sterling bolo tips. Bolo weighs a solid 42+ grams. Hard to find older handmade pieces like this. You are looking at a beautiful Rare vintage 1940’s Native American Zuni handmade small sterling silver Hopi Bird design bolo tie set with stunning mosaic inlay multi gemstones. Stones including turquoise, coral, onyx and mother of pearl. Tips are sterling as well. This rare piece was handmade by the famous Zuni artist Myra Tucson (wife of Homer Vacit). Myra has made quality pieces for over 3 decades and her work is published in several Zuni Books. This piece is an example of her early work. It’s a Great collectors piece. Notice the inlay detail & overall craft work design on this lovely piece. Still has its natural dark patina on the silver. Hard to find older quality pieces like this.
