Native American Indian Buffalo Horn Spoon, the Gottschall Collection, RARE
Native American Indian 19th century Buffalo Horn Spoon, from the Gottschall Collection. Its about 10 inches long. We were lucky to have several vintage Native artifacts offered to us recently. Several of them came from the Gottschall collection. We bought a few items and this Indian horn spoon was one of these artifacts. The Gottschall Collection: Commerce and Collecting. Gottschall assembled his ethnographic and archaeological collection of Indian artifacts between 1871 and 1905, while traveling through the Southwest peddling patent medicines. Like Donaldson, Gottschall was careful to record the provenience for each of his objects whenever it was known; his sales catalog of 1909 provides useful information for each piec e. Super Rare Big Joseph Latome San Felipe Zuni Pueblos Native American Pottery Jar
This older piece is a large Olla style jar or Pot made by the outstanding artisan Joseph Latome of the San Felipe & Zuni Pueblos here in. These pieces by him are so scarce, much desired, highly collectible, and this one is just. There were not that many good San Felipe Potters around and the newer ones kinda had to figure it out on their own as not much documented pottery from there survived. This amazing piece stands 6.75″ tall and is approx 11.5″ across at the widest. It is in perfect condition with no chips cracks repairs or damage, with only a couple tiny spots of finish loss and showing barely any normal signs of wear or scratching due to its older age. May even be what the Estate owners paid for it. The estate sale people did put a piece of tape across the bottom with a price tag under it, and as you can see in the last photo, did bring a little finish off the bottom of the pot when removed, so it was re-attached. Thankfully its on the bottom. Its still an amazingly rare item, only 2 on line anywhere available including the high-end shops in Santa Fe. One larger piece at 3500.00, and the other, very similar, at 1600.00. Its a sweet piece and a great addition to any collection! Any questions PLEASE ask! Joseph Latoma is a young man who lives at San Felipe Pueblo. His dad is from Zuni Pueblothus the reason for his Zuni namebut his mom is Margaret Chavez of San Felipe Pueblothus his matriarchal link to San Felipe Pueblo. Because there is so little documented historic pottery from San Felipe, Latoma has had to create his designs from memories of the older generation of the pueblo. He is very interested in reintroducing traditional San Felipe pottery. The only older potter from there in the last 50 years was Candelaria Montana and she passed away about 20 years ago. This large olla was made in the traditional pueblo coil method and slipped with natural regional clay. The designs are a combination of geometric, avian, flora and celestial, all arranged in a most artistic and logical manner. The item “SUPER RARE BIG JOSEPH LATOME SAN FELIPE ZUNI PUEBLOS NATIVE AMERICAN POTTERY JAR” is in sale since Wednesday, February 5, 2020. Rare C1875 Maine Tintype Of White Man In Native American Penobscot Festival Garb
For sale is a rare circa 1875 tintype of. Caucasian man in traditional Penobscot festival garb. Provenance: Found in Midcoast Maine. Its very rare to find an image like this. It is unknown if the subject was a caucasian man adopted into the tribe or possibly a man of intermarriage between the French. Or just a man donning the garb for a photo shoot. The clothing fits him well suggesting it was his personal clothing. The Penobscot and French intermarried beginning in the late 18th through the 19th century as their population were devastated from war and disease. The tintype features an early and detailed full-length studio portrait of a young Caucasian man sporting the full panoply of Penobscot festival costume, including headdress, decorated blouse with shawl collar, sash, trousers, pipe bag; he is standing on a broadloom carpet with a plain canvas backdrop. No case but with its original gold foil liner. Retaining its original glass. Condition haloed, otherwise fine. Measurements: 4 1/8 x 3 1/4. The item “Rare C1875 Maine Tintype Of White Man In Native American Penobscot Festival Garb” is in sale since Sunday, May 26, 2019.
