From 1880 until 1975 Phelps Dodge mined copper near Bisbee Arizona. Turquoise was always a by product from the mine. Luckily the company allowed their miners to collect the turquoise and carry it out in their lunch buckets. Much of the turquoise gathered came from the “Lavender Pit”. This deep purple blue stone became justly famous as the most beautiful from Arizona, a color so rich and lustrous that it became world famous. The seven incredible natural gems in this bracelet illustrate the highest grade found at the mine. They are set in Navajo jeweler Sammie Begay’s hand made bezels, separated with large silver drops atop his famous rolled and hammered ingot shank. Created completely from scratch from old American ingot coin silver, the piece is deeply stamped to perfection at each end. Inner Circumference of Bracelet: 6-1/4 in. Bracelet Gap Size: 1-1/4 in. I have some books posted in either antiques, art, or a collectible category. To see my son’s old books. A book for everybody, The Reformed Botanic & Indian Physician: a complete guide to health. Dr Daniel Smith. NY, Curtiss & White. 1855 – 1st edition. Beautiful stamped design hardcover with gilt spine lettering. 7.25″ by 4.75″ w/ 419 pages. Small engravings of parts of the internal and skeletal anatomy. Plus the full skeleton frontis. An important & early American guide to natural healing, based on Native American knowledge and tradition, using roots, plants, herbs, flowers, bark, etc. It begins with Remarks on Physiology & Anatomy. Then an extensive section of 70 pages giving the common and Latin names of hundreds of such items and their medicinal uses. A short section on the “Frailty of man”. Following is a long section [241 pages] of recipes for the treatment of virtually every ailment, injuries, etc. Then a guide for giving medicine & remarks on consumption. A chapter on “fairriey”, agriculture cookery, preserving meats, a few misc. Hints, ailments of horses, cattle and poultry, a short chapter on making wine, beer, and etc. And some concluding remarks on hunting, fishing and catching game…. Would beat their brains out with their paddles. The recipes pages really does include about everything you can think of! Kidney stones, several for cancers, in a raging fit, cholera, worms, fellons, for king’s evil, croup, consumption, profuse sweating, colic, gouts, water in the ear, corns, burns, palsy, fevers, itches, headaches, jaundice, heartburn, blindness, ear-ache, cough, vomiting blood, hard breasts, baldness, lunacy , chapped lips, bloody flux, measles, to clean teeth, and on and on…. Many of these have several recipes. From preface: The author was born in 1790 in the wilds of far northern New York State and was early initiated into the mode of treating diseases as practiced by the neighboring Aborigines. ” He wrote and published this guide to health as a protest against the general use of “syrups, salves, pills, powders, and ointments, any one of which is said to cure all diseases. Please zoom in on. Photos carefully as they are part of the description. All of my books are VERY OLD and have 100+ years of wear to varying degrees. For its age [155 years old]. Boards – very secure, a few small spots to the back cover. Pages very secure. Spine ends – very good – curled. Inner hinges – very good. Pages – sporadic spotting throughout – mostly light. Rips /folds – 2 rips that I saw, which were from uncut pages being torn apart wrong along the top edge [1 is picture # 6 – venereal diseases of all kinds] – both now taped /. 1 fold plus a few wee tips. Gilt on spine still quite bright. A VERY RARE ONE FOR YOUR LIBRARY! Please Add me to your Favorites list. AND check back now and then to see what’s new! Otherwise I can’t send you a new invoice. Sterling Silver 10-Stone Belt Buckle! Sterling Silver and Sleeping Beauty Turquoise. Dimensions – 3.0″ X 2.0″. Will accept a belt of up to 1.45. 52.1 grams = 1.68 Troy ounces. (all measurement are approximate). Mayes “Leaf” Belt Buckle. This wonderful Belt Buckle was made by the famous and talented Zuni artist Jobeth D. She started producing jewelry in 1971. She is most famous for his this very design in her jewelry. As a noted Zuni artist, her work is featured in several high end galleries and collections in all the major Native Jewelry catalogs and reference books. Jobeth became famous in an odd way in 2002 when her jewelry was featured on models in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. This is etch signed with her correct hallmark “Mary Jobeth Mayes Zuni (with a hand drawn cornstalk)”. Her hand etched signature and the corn stalk is very charming for me and I believe that it is unique in its presentation. There are some artist hallmark stamps that I like to look at, but seeing her signature and the related artistic design surrounding it always a treat! It is guaranteed to be Sterling Silver and authentic. I have found no defects like cracked or loose stones, noteworthy scratches, etc. It has a light tarnish. This may have come from a collection or may have just been used lightly. I don’t believe that Jobeth has made jewelry in many years, so a buckle in this condition is a great find. Over the years, I have never encountered one of her buckles with a “Leaf Theme”, I believe it to be very rare… For both of us! I believe that you will be pleased! The workmanship is exceptional and fine. It features a channel inlay pattern of 10 Turquoise stones along the top and bottom as well as 10 hand cut Turquoise rounds paced in the center field along with 10 Sterling Silver imperfect “water drops” that give it visual depth! This is a highly prized and iconic Jobeth Mayes museum quality piece. This amazing Buckle is full of character and may be recognized by many people. When you take a look at the pictures, please inspect the buckle carefully for the fine detail in both design and execution. Your friends may compliment you and your taste in Zuni Jewelry. INCREDIBLE Vintage Navajo Silver Turquoise Cornrow Inlay Cuff Bracelet RARE
This listing features an incredible work of art by the highly esteemed Navajo Artist Danny J. The cuff is made with sterling silver, gem grade turquoise, and other gem stones. The cuff was constructed from a strong thick shank made of solid silver. The outer edges of the cuff features flush inlays of turquoise while the center has raised cobblestone inlays of several different gem stones. At the front center of the cuff a rectangular bed of silver sits with the same design of flush inlays of turquoise around the edges and multiple raised cobblestone inlays in the middle. A stunningly designed piece! The stone inlays feature some of the most bold and vivid color hues weve seen in a while. The turquoise has gorgeous blue color qualities along with cloudy white matrixes, dark veiny matrixes, and speckled pyrite shimmering throughout. The corals have a deep hazy red, the malachite is deep green with matrix swirls of green just a shade lighter, and the mother of pearl has its classic iridescent sheen. Stewart also added black onyx, petrified wood, bone, gold lip mother of pearl, and lime green turquoise. All of the inlays are in excellent condition with the exception of one stone with a crack….. All 73 stones used to create this cuff are secure within their settings with no movement. This extraordinary handcrafted cuff will make a great addition to your existing collection of fine Native American jewelry…… Or it could be the the perfect piece to start one! Cherish and enjoy this timeless work of art for now…. And hand it down to loved ones in the future. Inspired by designs thousands of years old and executed only by the hand of the artist himself, the work of Danny Stewart is like none other. Using his knowledge in casting as well as an unrivaled skill with the jewelers torch, his settings display great strength as well as graceful artistry. Each piece of jewelry created by Danny Stewart is expected to withstand many years of everyday wear. Rarely entering competitions, Danny has won blue ribbons in every competition he has entered such as his first place award in the 2000 New Mexico Jewelers Association All That Glitters – Silver Jewelry Design competition which was displayed at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History. NOTE: The matching ring made by Stewart is listed separately under my listings. Weight – 89.5 Grams. Inner Circumference End To End – 5-1/4 (5.25). Gap – 1-1/8 (1.125).
