Beautiful Sterling silver watch cuff with watch expertly crafted by Navajo silversmith Tommy Singer. The cuff has an intricate Navajo design pattern. One of a limited quantity of 10 made by Tommy Singer. The watch is labeled “Japan Movt Stainless Steel Back”. It has a turquoise face with a gemstone at 12 o’clock position. Battery was recently replaced and it works. This beautiful piece looks great and would enhance any collection – see photos. Tommy Singer (born 1940 – May 31, 2014) was a Navajo Silversmith who specialized in chip-inlay jewelry. His inlaid turquoise, coral, and silver pieces incorporated traditional Navajo designs. Singer gained acclaim as the originator of the chip inlay design which he developed in the 1970s. Singer was a member of the Navajo Nation from Winslow, Arizona. He perfected his craft working on the Navajo reservation in a small studio surrounded with his family and other tribal members. He grew up on the Navajo Reservation and was taught silversmithing by his father, beginning at the age of seven. In the 1960s he invented the “chip-inlay” technique of using turquoise or coral chips in this silverwork. This technique has become widespread in his community. He also used stamps and work in overlay. When asked about his work, Singer said, Every piece is made with the various meanings from my traditional ways – the Navajo way of living. My father was a silversmith, too. He taught me, and wanted me to continue this trade. It was my father’s dream that I learn to silversmith so that I could continue his beliefs. This is a vintage Navajo handwoven rug in a rare 2 faced design. It measures 30″ long by 23″ wide. Since it has 2 separate sides it is thicker than a normal rug. The vast majority of Navajo weavings show the same design on both sides. A few master weavers specialize in double sided/2 face rugs like this one. They are hard to weave and take longer than normal Navajo rugs (which already take many hours to weave). That makes this rug a great find for your collection of Navajo textiles! This rug has no odors, rips, tears or stains. There are a couple small areas of old moth damage that aren’t very noticable. Check out my other Navajo rugs and Native American turquoise jewelry. Alex Sanchez has been making jewelry for over 15 years. He makes beautiful works of art in contemporary and traditional fashion. He is most known for his Petroglyph style that he has been perfecting for some time. His traditional work is fascinating as well, he uses some of the best turquoise in his works and builds the silver around the stones. His Petroglyph works include suns, bears, dragonflies, stars, and many other designs. He overlays these designs on a beautiful textured and oxidized background. Alex is a world class Navajo artist and his works will be very collectible for years to come. This is a handmade sterling silver Maiden Face, Navajo wide band ring, with a natural rare gem grade Red River Turquoise stone. The stone is a beautiful blue/green color with a an amazing red/brown webbed matrix. The stone sits in a smooth bezel. The silver work is done in Alex’s contemporary petroglyph style. Alex appliqued a circle of life, and stamped a dragonfly (for beauty) on the face. He stamped the wide band with bears (for strength). Alex completed this piece with an amazing high shine. This ring is a size 9. The face of this ring measures 1-3/8 inch and the band measures 9/16 inch, the stone measures 3/4 inch by 5/16 inch. Weight 24.3 grams. Stamped Sterling and Alex Sanchez.
