Navajo Gary Reeves RARE Number 8 Spiderweb Turquoise & Sterling Silver Bracelet
Navajo Gary Reeves RARE Number 8 Mine Spiderweb Turquoise & Sterling Silver Bracelet. Internationally famous, award winning Navajo Artist Gary Reeves created this traditional old style bracelet with a very large old Number 8 stone mounted in an old style silver finish. Gary was one of the Navajo silversmiths responsible for the revival of old Navajo designs from the 1930’s – 1950’s such as those used in this bracelet. This style was often referred to as the Navajo Revival Style. His work has been on display in the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. The Number 8 Turquoise mine was in the Lynn mining district in Eureka County, Nevada. The Number 8 Turquoise mine has long been depleted since 1961 and with limited reserves of this stone in existence, Number 8 turquoise jewelry is one of the most valuable and appreciated stones by collectors. The best, natural spiderweb Material from the Number 8 Turquoise mine is rare and highly coveted. This Number 8 turquoise stone is a magnificent bright, medium robin’s egg free form shape. The stone measures approximately 1 1/4″ X 1 1/8″. This stone is set in an entirely hand crafted, traditional Navajo bezel which is surrounded by an overlaid hand twisted sterling silver rope overlay. Flanking the bezel are two shell shaped scalloped overlays, each with repousse rain drops. Repousses are designs that have been created by a mold that pushed the design outward from the silver so it becomes raised then appears on the other side. Arrowhead overlays are in the center of the shell. The overlay scallops are stamped with sun ray, suns and rain drops. Shanks have scalloped edges and six rows of stamped designs. Sterling Silver cuff has been given an old style finish. Inside the cuff is Garry Reeves hallmark – “G Reeves” and the “STERLING” stamp. Approximately 1 1/2 across the center of the turquoise. Tapers to approximately 7/8″ wide at the shanks approximately 5 5/8″ inside cuff. Approximately1 1/8 gap (which could be CAREFULLY adjusted by applying light pressure with fingers to cuff ends, with face of bracelet resting on clean, soft cloth). Bracelet should be suitable for wrists that are 7″ to 7 1/4″ in circumference. Weighs approximately 3 1/8 ounce. This bracelet is in excellent condition.
