This original piece, signed by the artist, features a medium size bronze statue depicting a Native American scene with a bald eagle fighting for the hunters catch, rabbits. The sculpture captures an intense scene of a Native American trapper defending his catch of rabbits from a majestic eagle. The title “Dark Winter” hints at a time in nature where even the hunter is the hunted. Handcrafted in the United States in 1985, this piece showcases the intricate bronze casting technique and storytelling craftsmanship of the artist. Jones was born in Bremond, Texas and raised in Stephenville, Texas. He attended Tarleton State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree and Masters in Education. Jones has been honored by Tarleton as a Distinguished Alumnus in 1989 and his bronze sculptures grace the halls of both the White House and the Alamo. Now living in Granbury, Texas, Covelle Jones extensively researches the topics of his bronzes to make sure they are as accurate as possible. He raises his own longhorns and has a wide collection of Western artifacts from the 1800s to aid him in his authenticity and precision.
