Totally and created Santa Domingo pottery necklace made by Maria C and sign. Please note the new melon shell fishy, which is part of this vantage Santa Domingo necklace. Note that the alternating people on the necklace, of which there are 9/2 skirt or pants for 15 male and female. Please note that two of the nine have the arms missing due to age. Every pottery feed is handmade and hand fainted, and every person is handpainted with all the details of their hair face and clothing. It’s simply a rare and beautiful piece. From the hook and I closure to the bottom of the necklace measures 26 inches of length and as you can see from the photographs is a walking 72.4 g of plate and shell. Simply a rare and beautiful piece and worth every penny for collectors. Findings are sterling silver.

For sale is the book Native American blowguns by Douglas S. Meyer published by Dropstone Press in 2019. It is signed by the author on the title page. Doug Meyer is one of the foremost experts on primitive survival skills in the world. In this book, Meyer leans upon years of research, mentoring, trial and error, and expert instruction to deliver a historical and instructional guide for building a blowgun likely utilized by the Native Americans of the American Southeast. This volume of work is the culmination of Doug’s life’s work and research, and the knowledge within it is something not easily found in other primitive skills books on the market today. In his historical approach, Meyer relays his understanding from years of pouring over historical documentation of world-renowned ethnographers and learning from the primitive skills experts who mentored him. The Native American blowguns of the American Southeast are largely a mystery because they would have only been constructed from natural elements, and time has eroded all evidence of them away. However, there are clues to their existence, and part of that lives on in the heritage of many of the Native American tribes in the American Southeast who still practice the skills that were passed down from their ancestors. Meyer takes his best-educated guess to unlock the mystery surrounding this famous, primitive weapon. Another facet of this body of work is that it delivers a masterclass to the reader on building their own blowgun from natural elements, just as Meyer surmises the Early Native Americans would have done. From start to finish, you can see the years of learning and working with this primitive weapon come to life from off the page. The instruction within will shave years off one’s learning curve with these simple, yet complex hunting instruments. It’s not often you are able to really see the heart in a book containing subject matter like this, but Doug Meyer is the rare exception. His love of learning, history, and primitive skills are apparent, and his legacy will be this book, as he hopes it preserves and inspires interest in learning primitive skills that may otherwise, eventually, be lost to time. Expertise: This Lynn Johnson is a recognized authority on Seminole and Miccosukee material culture, specifically their unique palmetto and patchwork dolls. Background: She spent years researching the transition of these dolls from traditional tribal playthings to sought-after items for the Florida tourist trade c. The Book: Her 2008 book is considered a definitive guide for collectors because she meticulously documented the differences between “tourist” dolls and those made for internal tribal use, often citing specific makers and historical periods. Signed in ink, by Lynn Johnson and low numbered #67 of 1st 300. Well-illustrated with color photos. Scholarly work documenting the history, making, and characteristics of and dating of the dolls handmade by the Seminoles and Miccosukees, Native American Indians. Book includes over 130 color photographs of different dolls from museums, Native American art dealers, and private collectors. History, identification, dating and rarity. Spiral bound, laminated covers. 11″ x 9″, 81 pages. At time of listing, no copies are available for sale online, except for this one. Copies exist at the Smithsonian and at Native American museums, so this is a great find. Please check out my other neat stuff. Was born in 1948 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Growing up on a reservation, she went to Bureau of Indian Affairs schools before attending the University of New Mexico. She taught at the Navajo Community College in Arizona and is a professor of English at the University of Arizona, Tucson. Marmon has written short stories, poetry, plays and novels. Her books include Laguna Woman, Ceremony and Yellow Woman.

This has a great look to it and has been kept in good vintage condition. There may be some scratching or surface wear from age which is to be expected. Please see all photos for details and feel free to ask any questions. This piece measures just over 12 tall. There are small holes on each side that may have been for attachable wings that are no longer there. Please keep in mind that the majority of the items in my store are used, vintage or antique.
