Extremely Rare Antique 1930’s WPA Museum Extension Project Diorama – Planting Corn – Iroquois. The diorama measures 12 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ x 8 3/4 and is in nicely maintained condition with the labels attached and legible. Hinges are solid and function well. Both pieces of glass are intact. Overall a wonderful example of early WPA artwork. In the early 1930’s, during the great depression, President Roosevelt enacted the “New Deal Program”. One of the programs was the Works Progress Administration (WPA) (also: Work Projects Administration). The program employed thousands of out of work jobseekers to carry out public works projects. Many artists & artisans were employed in the creation of exhibitions for schools. These exhibitions, like this diorama, are very fragile & therefore many do not exist today. The box is made of wood & painted black. The front window & the inner roof of the box are glass. The top of the diorama has a hinged lid, which is held up by a wooden rod, which allows light to enter the top of this diorama. The top inner glass has one corner cut out to accommodate this wooden rod to drop down out of the way.

This vintage Seminole patchwork skirt is a rare and authentic piece of Native American tribal art. Made of velvet and featuring intricate multi-color stitching, this handmade skirt is a unique and culturally significant piece of clothing. Its custom size and women’s design make it a special and one-of-a-kind accessory for those with a deep appreciation for traditional American Indian artistry. Made in the United States, this skirt showcases the rich heritage and craftsmanship of the Seminole tribe. The approximate Measurements are as follows: Waist 33″inches with a 3 1/2 ” extension for closure. Waistband to bottom of skirt 41. Measurement across bottom of skirt 122inches. There are 53 rows of rick rack in colors of Turquoise, White, Black and pink. The miniscule patchwork section measures approximately 10inches tall. It is on a black cotton background surrounded by 10 rows of rick rack in white and pink. The colors of the patchwork design are turquoise, white, black and orange. Condition is excellent, pre-owned, vintage over 50+ years old. The blue velvet section, above the patchwork, has a few very tiny spots, that I tried to capture in photos. It is an original pastel, and it is framed under glass. It is signed on the front in the lower left-hand corner and has the title written on the back. The painting is in excellent condition and the frame definitely shows its age with some scratches dings, and scuffs, but it is sturdy and the artwork is ready to hang. It measures approximately 17 1/2 x 21″ framed, and the viewable image size is approximately 11 1/4 x 15 1/4″. It’s difficult to tell if it is done on paper or artist board and I have not examined the artwork out of the frame, but it is an original. Thanks for your interest.
