LATE 19TH CENTURY VINTAGE BOOK’INDIAN HORRORS OR MASSACRES BY THE RED MEN,’ by HENRY DAVENPORT NORTHDROP, D. (Author of the’Earth, Sea & Sky,’) , CLOTHBOUND, W/MANY STEEL ENGRAVED ILLUSTRATIONS. 19th c Native American history (Eurocentric narrative). 7 ½” Height x 5 ½” Width (600 pages). There are a few loose pages toward the very front but the entire book is still intact and has no missing pages. The book would be rated to be in fair to good overall vintage condition, with the cloth binding largely intact and relatively no damage to the front or back cover of the clothbound book. The pages are largely free from tears, scribbling, perforations, corner folds, creasing and other issues, such as stains, mildew, discoloration or significant tanning. Only the loose pages toward the front of the book prohibit me from grading it much higher than I can do due to the issue of the loose pages. The red cloth of the cover is stamped with black ink font and graphic iconography, punctuated with adjacent gold gilt ink stamping, pressed and embossed into the cloth front cover. There’s also a slight break of the glue which held the spine’s upper flap down inside the binding, causing this flap to have become loose and free. A great book of significant American historical value. This was the pervasive Eurocentric, majority, white point of view expressed toward Native Americans at the end of the 19th century and a less-than-favorable one at the very least. What’s crucial and academically critical however, is the addition to the historical record it leaves and the lasting impression of misunderstanding, imperial righteousness, racial superiority and the territorial expansionist doctrine of’Manifest Destiny,’ spurred on by messianic, Christian evangelical zealotry and the majority belief that the displacement of an entire people and race from their native lands by European immigrants was somehow and in some way, sanctioned and even originally designed by God. What today would be considered to be outrageous and blatantly racist, was only slightly more than 100 years ago, the accepted, majority held opinion toward Native Americans, which made their wholesale displacement, slaughter, eventual internment and official theft of their land, more palatable and widely accepted. An important work that speaks to the dangers of intolerance and misunderstanding in the past and a warning against the same phenomenon today. A rare volume and a must-have addition for any serious collection of Native American history. Fair to Good overall vintage condition. A few loose pages toward the front of the book. The item “RARE LATE 19TH C VINT’INDIAN HORRORS OR MASSACRES BY THE RED MEN’ (1891) CLOTH” is in sale since Saturday, November 10, 2018. This item is in the category “Books\Antiquarian & Collectible”. A Rare Antique Plains Indian Saddle From the Late 1800s
Description: A Plains Indian saddle from the late 1800s. It is a wood frame, wrapped in rawhide and has tacked decorations both front and back. Not many of these authentic ones survive. The vintage Navajo saddle. Blanket can also be included with the saddle. Please note the leather seat covering on the saddle is a later replacement. According to Wikipedia, Plains Indians or Indigenous peoples of the Great Plains are the Native American tribes and Nation band governments who have historically lived on the Great Plains and Canadian Prairies. While hunting-farming cultures have lived on the Great plains for centuries prior to European contact, the region is most known for the horse cultures that flourished from the 17th century through the late 19th century. Many of them would have ridden in saddles similar to this. This is an awesome collectors piece that would go perfect in your collection! We stand behind what we sell and want you to be happy! Approx Age: Circa Late 1800s. Size: Smaller sized saddle overall, but it has about a 12 seat. Condition: Pretty good for its age. Wear, imperfections and missing accoutrements expected. RARE Vintage Navajo Sterling Silver Turquoise Multi Stone Inlay Cuff Bracelet
Thank you for being loyal buyers and patient during this time.. This listing is for an extremely rare and valuable Navajo handcrafted cuff bracelet, made of sterling silver and multiple gemstone inlays. This desirable style cuff bracelet was created by contemporary Navajo Artist, Harold Stevens Jr. I urge you to search his work on this site! The face of the cuff features several flush inlaid gemstones including turquoise, variscite, lapis, onyx, wildhorse turquoise, and dinosaur bone agate. Two wafer thin silver channels accompany the inlays as well. The inlays are cut into geometric shapes and lay flush with the thick silver shank. Stevens added his personal touch with unusual cuts on each side of the cuff where the onyx and wildhorse was used, with one end having deep stampings shooting off a tiny triangular onyx inlay. Large rectangular cutouts to the shank were added just before each end with the shank also having a short 45 degree angle. Tiny details of this nature make this piece standout from the rest, for example the sliver of lapis that rests on the outer edge of the face…. Its details like this that most people never even see but, make it that much more extraordinary.. The inside of the cuff is highly detailed as well, with a raised blue lapis stone on one end and two flush turquoise inlays on the opposite end. Small puncture holes were also added inside the cuff next to the large silver cutouts. SOOO MUCH DETAIL ON THIS PIECE! A raised silver plate rests as the center of the inside, showing the Artists signature Picto hallmark and a sterling stamp. The silver used to create the cuff is thick and hearty, so there is no give at the gap. Its a very solid well made bracelet. The edges of the cuff have smooth sleek lines making application to the wrist effortless. A gorgeous piece with an intricate and complex design, great for todays trending bohemian styles and perfect to stack with other cuffs. Will make a wonderful addition to any existing collection of fine Native American jewelry….. Cherish and enjoy this cuff for now…. And hand it down to loved ones in the future. Weight – 52 Grams. Inner circumference end to end – 5-3/4. Gap – 1-5/16 (NOT ADJUSTABLE). Total circumference including gap – 7-1/16 (will fit up to a 6-3/4 wrist comfortably). The silver is very thick and has a thickness/depth of 5 millimeters!!! Entire size of inlay section measures – Just over 4 long and 7/16 wide at widest point. Signed by Artist – YES, with the recognizable picto hallmark of Navajo Artist, Harold Stevens Jr. Stamped Sterling – YES, tested and verified. Later mid-century, late 70s – early 80s. Condition – Preowned, in very good vintage condition with all original inlays and slight patina, there is a chip in one turquoise stone and a hairline crack in another stone near one end, ready to wear or display. I treat every item as if it were my own. Extra bubble wrap and packing materials are used to ensure a safe arrival to its new owner. Please see all 12 photos!! Enlarge them and study them. Ask any questions you may have. Im always here to help and I respond quickly and nicely. THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING AUTHENTIC NATIVE AMERICAN JEWELRY! RARE! A Carved Turquoise Necklace Attributed to Leekya Deyuse
This stunning and unique carved turquoise necklace is a one of a kind! The carvings have been strongly attributed to the master Zuni carver, Leekya. Several experts in the field of vintage and antique Native American jewelry have also verified the attribution. The last 2 pictures are from the famous old C. It is a choker style necklace with seven carved turquoise tabs and handmade sterling silver beads. Please note, the turquoise carving just to the left of the center piece is not the original. That piece was broke and subsequently repaired, but the previous owner did not like the repair, so he had a replacement made. However, the original which was repaired is still included (see pictures where the original is sitting beside the replacement). We will convey the original piece along with the necklace. It also conveys in a riker’s shadow box display as pictured. This is a highly collectible necklace and it would go perfect in your collection! We stand behind what we sell and want you to be happy! Size: Measures 16 around the neck. Pendant is an additional 1-1/4″ wide X 2-1/4″ long. Weighs 114.2 g. Condition: Good for its age. Normal wear and minor imperfections expected on used and vintage items and read the description above for other pertinent details.
