Navajo Gary Reeves Godber Mine RARE Spiderweb Turquoise & SS Bracelet. We are letting go of a large number of quality pieces from our collection of Native American jewelry. You will find, among them, some real treasures of OLD PAWN as well as pieces from some of the very best artisans. We hope you will bookmark our site and visit often as we will be listing new items almost daily. This gorgeous bracelet is amazing in so many ways. First, it was created by renowned Navajo artist Gary Reeves, brother of Sunshine and Daniel Reeves. Their award-winning works collectively populate many museums, collections and publications. The turquoise cabochon in this bracelet is very unusual, in its incredible beauty, size (2 5/8″ x 1 3/8″), rarity and origin. The Godber Mine in Nevada has been known to produce some of the finest turquoise ever mined, and on very rare occasions, a gorgeous spiderweb turquoise which is what you see here. Clouds of blue in a black sea. It is easily one of the most arresting and beautiful turquoise gems we’ve seen. It’s set in a plain Sterling silver bezel ringed with silver rope. The wings of the cuff have applied Sterling najas, an interesting choice of decoration. It is t hought to have originated with the Moors, then borrowed from the Spanish, both of which believed the naja protected them from harm. Navajo for “crescent, ” it was used by the Navajo first as an ornamental design on horse bridle headstalls and as silver decorations on men? Eventually, Navajo silversmiths began incorporating the naja design into their jewelry. The najas on this bracelet contain within them what is either a cross or a sword. Considering the origins of the symbol, perhaps it’s meant to represent both. The center strand of the three-strand Sterling band is a thin silver wire bonded with silver rope on both sides. The Sterling silver plate upon which the cab is mounted is signed on the back with the artist’s signature, G. Reeves, and stamped Sterling. This museum-quality bracelet is a perfect example of the artistry for which Gary Reeves is famous, from the choice of rare turquoise to the excellent design he created as a showcase. It is definitely one of a kind. Width: 2 3/4 at widest. Inside circumference (without gap): 5 7/8. Materials: Godber Mine Turquoise, Sterling Silver. Navajo Gary Reeves RARE Number 8 Mine Spiderweb Turquoise & Sterling Silver Bracelet. Internationally famous, award winning Navajo Artist Gary Reeves created this traditional old style bracelet with a very large old Number 8 stone mounted in an old style silver finish. Gary was one of the Navajo silversmiths responsible for the revival of old Navajo designs from the 1930’s – 1950’s such as those used in this bracelet. This style was often referred to as the Navajo Revival Style. His work has been on display in the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. The Number 8 Turquoise mine was in the Lynn mining district in Eureka County, Nevada. The Number 8 Turquoise mine has long been depleted since 1961 and with limited reserves of this stone in existence, Number 8 turquoise jewelry is one of the most valuable and appreciated stones by collectors. The best, natural spiderweb Material from the Number 8 Turquoise mine is rare and highly coveted. This Number 8 turquoise stone is a magnificent bright, medium robin’s egg free form shape. The stone measures approximately 1 1/4″ X 1 1/8″. This stone is set in an entirely hand crafted, traditional Navajo bezel which is surrounded by an overlaid hand twisted sterling silver rope overlay. Flanking the bezel are two shell shaped scalloped overlays, each with repousse rain drops. Repousses are designs that have been created by a mold that pushed the design outward from the silver so it becomes raised then appears on the other side. Arrowhead overlays are in the center of the shell. The overlay scallops are stamped with sun ray, suns and rain drops. Shanks have scalloped edges and six rows of stamped designs. Sterling Silver cuff has been given an old style finish. Inside the cuff is Garry Reeves hallmark – “G Reeves” and the “STERLING” stamp. Approximately 1 1/2 across the center of the turquoise. Tapers to approximately 7/8″ wide at the shanks approximately 5 5/8″ inside cuff. Approximately1 1/8 gap (which could be CAREFULLY adjusted by applying light pressure with fingers to cuff ends, with face of bracelet resting on clean, soft cloth). Bracelet should be suitable for wrists that are 7″ to 7 1/4″ in circumference. Weighs approximately 3 1/8 ounce. This bracelet is in excellent condition. Navajo Gem Grade Spiderweb Variscite. Sterling Silver Belt Buckle. 3.1″ X 2.4″. Will accept a belt of up to 1.5. 63.6 grams = 2.04 Troy ounces. All measurement are approximate. Navajo Gem Grade Variscite Buckle. This Large and exquisite Belt Buckle was made by a talented Navajo artist using a stunning Spiderweb Variscite stone that has lots of dark Matrix. It is Not stamp signed with a hallmark depicting the maker, nor it is stamped “Sterling” on reverse of the buckle. There is no tarnish and has its original high luster. The buckle looks, and probably is what most would consider “New”. I listed it as pre-owned, because it is… The stone is really the story here and this gem grade Variscite stone is magnificent. It seems to have all the characteristics and look of a stone mined in the Candelaria area in Nevada. You may notice that this stone, with its interesting “globules” and dark background, could be mistaken for Turquoise from the same area. In the United States, Variscite is also mined in Utah and Wyoming. It is generally more rare than Turquoise, but it is not incorporated in Native jewelry as commonly as Turquoise. The mining region is located about 50 miles west of Tonoph, Nevada. Turquoise was first mined by a Mexican in about 1885. This stone is luminous and radiant. This exceptional material is appreciated and used by many of the best Native American jewelers. I hope you like it! The simple and precise stamp work is also impressive and worth examining in the magnified pictures! Here is a real treat. I have never seen a buckle that has stamping on the square bezel that holds the Turquoise… This one has it! It is all quite fine. If you are looking for an elegant large Navajo belt buckle with a dramatic Variscite stone, I believe it will please you.. As the Navajo say, “Walk in Beauty”. In the United States.
