Hope this finds you Safe and Well! This is a fantastic i nlaid multi-stone cuff of Native American Artist signed DT. It has been in my jewelry box… Back side of cuff marked DT Sterling with hallmark. Raised multi-stone dimensional inlay of Turquoise, Coral, red & orange Spiny Oyster. Lapis, F ossilized Walrus Tusk & Tiger Eye. It is reminiscent Charles Loloma style. Circa late 1970’s. Measures 1 wide and weighs 64.6 grams. Inside end-to-end measurement of 5 5/8″ plus a non-adjustable opening gap of 1 1/16″. See photos for dimensions. All my items have been stored in a Smoke Free/Pet Free home. I do have an adorable Russian Tortoise but he’s my baby! Authentic 18th century blacksmith forged Indian spike tomahawk. The level of artistry reflects the status of the warrior who carried this hawk. Condition, except for a tiny edge nick on the bit, as shown (exaggerated in the photo). There are expected signs of surface wear, but not much. Overall the deep patina has superficial signs of exposure and oxidation. But retains a lot of original. The very tip of the spike is flattened. Talking about just enough (about one mm across). So it wouldn’t poke through and puncture. Indian horseman carrying it in his belt. Measurement: 8 7/8 inches long. Bit: 3 7/8 inches wide. The item “SUPERB NATIVE AMERICAN 18th CENT. Note: I do not know if this listed example was found in Connecticut. Further details: The surface of the metal is nicely patinated with minimal. Several wear marks do occur in the surface of the metal. There is no re-sharpening of the bit. The edge has one or two spots of. Roughness which does not distract from its appearance. The poll is octagonally chamfered. The haft is very old. The tightening shims in the eye reflect great age. I do not know. How far back the haft goes, but it could be original. There are three very small holes. In the haft which. Appear to have been drilled in modern. Times to use for attaching something. A prior owner fancied it up with a beaded drop, but that it was removed. I’ve had it in my collection. For years and don’t know. MEASURES: bottom of haft to top of bit: 12 3/4 inches. End of poll to edge of bit: 5 inches. Bit: 3 1/8 inches. Poll: 1 3/8 inches. The distinction between a “poll hatchet” and a poll tomahawk is often a matter of debate. I have nothing against poll hatchets and have a fine example of one currently listed. But here’s what makes this a tomahawk, and primarily a weapon of Native Americans. (not British or French soldiers). The military French and British Tomahawk styles. Are pretty well known because they were made in large numbers. This is not like any of theirs. Which had shorter polls, more efficient for hammering nails, and tended to have their top. Edge form a straight line front to back, for ease in lathing strips of wood. This is Rare Style Antique Plains Native American Pipe Tomahawk. This particular style is known as the bat-wing for the shape of one the piercings that resemble the shape of a bat. These tomahawks were more obscure and especially made for high ranking chiefs, war chiefs and particularly notable leaders. The war club tomahawk features an exceptional hand-forged iron head with bat-wing cut-out and beaded drop. The forge seams are visible on both sides of the blade and the piece shows a truly fine high-quality craftsmanship. The head exhibits a fine rich deep patina evenly over the entire surface. The original haft is constructed from carved hard wood and brass tacks. The entire surface of the wood shows a nice deep patina. Haft Length – 24.5 in. Blade – 10.0 x 3.5 in.
