Rare Old Leekya Deyuse Zuni Silver Carved Bear Fetish Turquoise Cuff Bracelet. The fetish appears to be a profile of a bear on its side with head up, but it could be another animal (not his typical frog). The bracelet appears to be sand cast, but again, I’m not an expert. I could go on and on (as many who sell Leekya items do) and sing the praises of Old Man Leekya Deyuse and tell you why his stuff is so important in Zuni history, but I imagine if you are looking at this listing, you already know all about him, and appreciate his work, so I’ll spare the lesson. As for “provenance, ” I have nothing solid in writing as to the original owner, or the bracelet’s exact age. That being said, I have done a lot of research on Leekya Deyuse, and have also consulted with knowledgeable experts / dealers from at least four reputable galleries out West, as well as two Tribal Arts appraisers, who have seen these photos and verified that this is the real deal–and that the center carving was done by Leekya. Most of Leekya Deyuse’s pieces are with museums or private collectors, and few and far between are ever for sale. I have had a few offers on it, but wish to put it out there for the general public so that more collectors can see it. If you are a collector of Leekya’s work, you will be able to make your determination from the very thorough photos. If you need more photos, just ask. The bracelet is not at all flexible. It measures 5 5/8″ around the inside, with a 1 1/8″ gap. It is 2″ wide at the center, and 3/4″ wide at the ends. It weighs 4.2 ounces (about 120 grams).
