RARE NATIVE AMERICAN 1922 ST. PAUL SLED DOG DERBY COAT. A TRUE COLLECTORS PIECE OF NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE FROM THE UPPER MIDWEST REGION (MINNESOTA). AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE 1920’S NATIVE AMERICAN BEADED BLACK HEAVY WOOL COAT. PROBABLY WORN IN THE 1922 ANNUAL ST. PAUL DAILY NEWS DOG DERBY. ONE OF THE EARLIEST DOG SLED RACES. THE COAT HAS A SMALL BRASS MEDALLION WITH “1922” STAMPED ON IT. IT HAS SOME SORT OF A REAL FUR HOOD AND CUFF TRIM, POSSIBLY WOLF. I’VE BEEN TOLD BY SOMEONE IN WISCONSIN THAT THE BEADING IS OJIBWAY (CHIPPEWA). THE BEADING IS MOSTLY INTACT. HAS SOME TYPE OF RAW LEATHER HEART SHAPED PIECES ALONG BOTTOM. WITH LETTERS BEADED ON MOST OF THEM. IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH SOME WEAR AND FEW BEADS MISSING. 24 INCHES CUFF TO SHOULDER SEAMS. 35 INCH SLEEVES CUFF TO CENTER COLLAR ALONG OUTER EDGE. 20 INCHES FROM SHOULDER TO SHOULDER SEAMS.
