“Two Frogs, ” by Euro-American Artist, Barry Herem (Washington, born 1941). Native art serigraph print, 1977, unframed. Limited edition 74/250, in pencil at lower left, titled at lower center, and signed at lower right. Silkscreen print measures 20″ x 16″ horizontal. Slight warping in lower right. Another Two Frogs print is in the Burke Museum Ethnology Collection at the Burke Museum, University of Washington. The artist, Barry Herem, is known for his Northwest Coast-inspired designs. Limited edition prints like this are often sought after by collectors and can be found in galleries and auctions. The style of the print is that of Northwest Coast Indigenous art, with bold black and red lines forming the shape of two stylized frogs. For your consideration is this truly exceptional imperial or oversized cabinet photograph that was copyrighted in 1890 by the photographer David Francis Barry. This is a well known photograph of Chief John Grass who was a leader of the Sihasapa (or Blackfoot) Sioux. He was born along the Grand River in South Dakota and became known as a leader of peace, at times resisting government efforts to take more land from the Sioux. This photograph is in EX to NM condition. Would be tough to find any better than this one. It measures an impressive 10″ by 6 3/4″. A rare size and image for the collector of Native American history.
