Rare AAA Turquoise & Sterling Silver Squash Blossom Necklace. Vintage FM Begay, Circa 1970s. Recently acquired through a dear friends estate, this is a Vintage (Circa 1970s) Zuni Petit Point Turquoise & Sterling Silver Squash Blossom Necklace, finely crafted, by the renowned Native American silversmith Frances Begay. FM Begay is known for her intricate and detailed petit point stone setting techniques, and those skills truly take centerstage here. This piece features a Naja pendant with pear-shaped turquoise cabochons, accented by lasso motif trimming. Each side of the necklace is adorned with six lobed Squash Blossom motifstwelve in totalwith the center petal of each blossom bejeweled with a single turquoise stone, then further ornamented with arrays of expertly clustered pear-shaped turquoise cabochons. The necklace is stamped with F. BEGAY on the back, and 24 1/4 inches in length from clasp to clasp. There are twelve 1 3/4 inch blossoms, and the middle Naja that measures 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches. This stunning piece is completed with two rows of sterling silver bench beads and a hook and eye clasp. Begay crafted this Squash Blossom Necklace in the 1970s and it has aged wonderfully. The turquoise is a beautiful blue-green color, with tones varying from dark to light. The silver is thick and very sturdy, with intricate ornamental details and a light patina, which gracefully hints at its vintage pedigree. Set with a total of 229 hand-cut natural turquoise cabochons, the crowned double row Naja and its companion Squash Blossoms will add a surefire enhancement to nearly any outfit you wish to grace with this timeless piece of art. This Vintage Squash Blossom necklace is in excellent condition, however, as always, please review the pictures carefully for cosmetic purposes and preferences. Weight in grams and ounces: 162 grams (5.71 ounces). Length from clasp to clasp: 24 1/4 inches. Naja: 2 1/2 inches wide by 2 1/2 inches tall. Side blossoms: 1 3/4 inches wide by 7/8 inches tall. BRASS TRADE PIPE TOMAHAWK, brass head with pipe poll, handle inlaid with pewter, the decoration featuring a Thunderbird, a standing figure, a sun circle, double arrows, double cross, crossed arrows, and geometric designs. It is a rare gem. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to own a beautiful and exceptionally unique piece of American history. 8″ L head, 15 1/4″. Fourth quarter 19th century. Excellent condition overall, pewter inlay with some likely early solder repairs, losses to mouthpiece likely from use. Private collection of Wallace Gusler, Williamsburg, VA. Gusler, This appears to be a commercial example of the type marketed to the Native population. The pewter inlay work was possibly executed by a Native American. The designs in the handle area of the tomahawk show Southwest Indian style – a thunderbird and a standing man, both executed with straight lines and corners, a style derived from weaving. There is also a sun circle at the end of the grip area, moving toward the head on each side. Double arrows, a double cross, and crossed arrows, and other geometric details are between the grip area and the head. In some areas solder repairs have been made, very easy to spot because of their lighter silver color. These appear to have been done during the period of active use. The integral mouthpiece has been broken off and shows good age, showing damage sustained a long time ago. I always provide tracking information for buyers to track their investments. Truly for the serious collector of historical Native American pieces that are impossible & literally hard to find. These sterling studded Navajo velvet shirts are either in museums or in the avid collectors hands. Being a Santa Fe resident that’s’involved’ in the industry, I have only seen one for retail in all these years & that particular one hardly had anything close to the amount of sterling, like this one has! This is one seriously designed Navajo shirt with not many like it, nor having the amount of sterling like this one has! The top is said to be from the 30’s-40’s & is in amazing condition for it’s age! There are no conchos missing, nor do I see any obvious fading of color. The material is more like a velveteen rather than a silk velvet.. The material is quite heavy, which is the perfect weight when you have this many conchos that are sewn atop of it! The color is what I would call a berry color. (The photos from the backside make it appear more purple, but the accuracy in color are on the front side photos). All the sterling is hand forged & the front is literally covered with a range of different size sterling pieces, from dime size hand stamped buttons, to 2 different type of fluted, to round studs. You can witness the raw style handwork in the metal. There is actually a pattern to the design(See photos).. I counted around 246 buttons alone on the front of the shirt. The sleeves are covered in their entirety with a range in size from a 6 mm stud to a 9 mm. Counting just one sleeve, the front side has approximately 128 studs on the front & the back of the sleeve has about 116 for a total of 244! (X’s this by 2 for the other sleeve since they look identical). This has sterling “Grandmother Tips” that have little cabochons of turquoise & are sewn & then pinned to the base of the shirt. I was told that the triangular corduroy’gussets’ may have been added later to the armpit. If you look at the last photo, you will see the shirt turned inside out & how the metal is sewn onto the fabric. Please refer to all the photos since they play a major role to the shirt. MEASURED ON ONE SIDE ONLY. Everything but length & sleeves measurements. CIRCA: 1930’S-40’S. METAL FINISH:Darkened with Natural Aged Patina. AMOUNT OF BUTTONS & STUDS: Approximately 734. WEIGHT:1 pound-10 ounces. SHOULDER TO SHOULDER: 18. WAIST TO BOTTOM: 17. LENGTH: 27 (MEASURED FROM CENTER COLLAR BACKSIDE TO BOTTOM). CONDITION: No holes, no missing buttons/studs, a few of the smaller studs have dings, but there are so many on this you have to really look close! It’s in remarkable condition for it’s age. This has’age’, so I do not know what kind of household it came from. You will be purchasing a “Used” item! If I have left anything out, please forgive me!
