Offering an original RARE antique SIGNED hand-tinted / hand-colored silver gelatin photograph by noted Vashon Island. Washington – based photographer NORMAN EDSON (1876 – 1968) titled “The Fish Story, ” ca. 1905 – 1908, depicting two elderly Coast Salish tribal members on the TULALIP Reservation (Washington, Native American Indian), the woman staring down at a large salmon draped over a cedar bark mat and the man grasping the edge of a Northern -style Northwest Coast seagoing canoe. The photograph, which is float mounted on an ivory-colored paper, is ink signed by Edson in the lower right margin and is titled in ink in the lower left margin. Framed behind glass, and housed in an amazing and unique Arts & Crafts -era gilt pie crust / batwing style frame. Photograph measures approximately 7-3/4″ x 9-3/4″, and the piece overall approximately 19-1/2 L x. The photograph is in excellent visible condition. The frame displays some cracks within the gesso, but is stable, and displays some light surface scratches and rubbing/loss of gilding commiserate with age.
