Apsit Bros. 1974 Native American Lamp RARE EARLY California Pottery Chalkware
Exceptionally rare and early piece of Apsit Brothers of California in fantastic condition. (Shade is not included with sale of lamp). I say rare, but what I likely mean is this is possibly the only one in existence. There is no major damage. No cracks, breaks, large chips. This statue has been sitting in a smoke free, dry basement for 40 years untouched. I couldn’t even find any paint loss outside of a fleck of black missing right below the brass bar protruding from his head to house the electrical cord. Dated 1974 on the back, this would have been among the first hand crafted and painted pieces they produced. Their signature is difficult to make out, but I guarantee it to be authentic. Signed Apsit of calif. C 1974 in very fair lettering. Lamp is in the form of a Native America Man, arms crossed, worried look on his face, U. It stands (without shade) 25 1/2 tall. The base is an oval that is roughy 7.5″ x 6.5″. It is heavy and solid. Weighs roughly 30 pounds. The detail here is absolutely amazing. Every hair on his head, the rocks on the base, pieces of his clothing, etc are meticulously detailed. I’m not kidding when I say this statue really is a work of art. Apsit pieces are highly collected and sought after, especially early pieces. This is among the earliest I have seen. Please note that the lamp shade pictured IS NOT INCLUDED with this listing. Feel free to ask questions. The item “Apsit Bros. 1974 Native American Lamp RARE EARLY California Pottery Chalkware” is in sale since Tuesday, August 11, 2015. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Lamps, Lighting\Lamps\ Electric\Table Lamps”. The seller is “namstrops” and is located in Portland, Oregon. This item can be shipped to United States.
