Santo Domingo/Kewa Rare EARLY MARY CORIZ LOVATO Mosaic’HEALING HANDS’ Shell Earrings RAELY SEEN EARLY SHELL MOSAIC EARRINGS The daughter of Leo Coriz, born in 1936 to the Corn clan, Mary Lovato was taught her exceptional art by her parents, and began creating her own stylized mosaic jewelry in the 1950’s. Here is a wonderful early pair of shell earrings with’healing hands’, the mosaics composed of Sleeping Beauty turquoise, jet, coral, and mother of pearl. In a blending of traditional with contemporary, sturdy sea shells, rimmed in sterling silver and inlaid with bright blue turquoise chips, have historical cavelike hand prints of blackest jet with finger tips of glittering mother of pearl and a signature red coral circular dot, completely outlined in sterling silver. You rarely see work of such beauty, with this amazing intricacy of silver and stone work. Here are 2 large, rare Native American Santo Domingo Pueblo Indian necklaces. First one is museum quality, handmade, graduated multi-stone with turquoise, mother of pearl, fossilized coral, black jet, multi-stone inlaid heishi disc beads and skilled overlaid shell work with sterling silver spacer beads and customary sterling silver hook and eye closure. It measures approximately 28 inches long and weighs 76 grams. The other necklace measures approximately 20 inches long and weighs 53 grams. It has gorgeous mother of pearl inlaid with turquoise and fossil coral plus turquoise and jet heishi beads and handmade sterling silver cones and closure. Condition of both is excellent, with nice patina (kept in glass case for many years). Beautiful works of art, made in the traditional way with genuine, natural stones and shells.. Ray Lovato is the Santo Domingo artist of this one strand rare Natural Kingman Turquoise heishi necklace. You are purchasing the longer bluer heishi Kingman necklace on this listing. The necklace one strand you will be purchasing is the slightly longer of the necklaces shown slightly bluer of turquoise heishi shown. Additional photos are provided to show of several heishi turquoise necklaces all made by the same artist Ray Lovato for visual purposes slightly different colors of turquoise. This rare greenish natural Manassa Turquoise measures 34” L as shown on a squaw wrap and the beads measures 1/4W. A squaw wrap is the traditional way of making a clasp for necklaces. Turquoise from many select mines are often not readily available to Native American artists today in todays market and the market is an every changing place as fewer artists are making jewelry and several mines are either closed or the stone is all mined out or the quality of the stone also may not be there in jewelry making. Those are but a few of the many reasons why the price of turquoise continues to go up in value along with having more of the demand and less of supply of not only Turquoise but qualified quality known artists making the jewelry.
