An important & early American guide to natural healing, based on Native American knowledge and tradition, using roots, plants, herbs, flowers, bark, etc. It begins with Remarks on Physiology & Anatomy. Then an extensive section of 70 pages giving the common and Latin names of hundreds of such items and their medicinal uses. A short section on the “Frailty of man”. Following is a long section [241 pages] of recipes for the treatment of virtually every ailment, injuries, etc. Then a guide for giving medicine & remarks on consumption. A chapter on “fairriey”, agriculture cookery, preserving meats, a few misc. Hints, ailments of horses, cattle and poultry, a short chapter on making wine, beer, and etc. And some concluding remarks on hunting, fishing and catching game…. Would beat their brains out with their paddles. The recipes pages really does include about everything you can think of! Kidney stones, several for cancers, in a raging fit, cholera, worms, fellons, for king’s evil, croup, consumption, profuse sweating, colic, gouts, water in the ear, corns, burns, palsy, fevers, itches, headaches, jaundice, heartburn, blindness, ear-ache, cough, vomiting blood, hard breasts, baldness, lunacy , chapped lips, bloody flux, measles, to clean teeth, and on and on…. Many of these have several recipes.
