Plains Indian Ledger Book Art Rare Milwaukee Public Museum 34 Plate Portfolio
Proudly presented today is this rare First Printing of “Sioux Indian Drawings”, published by Milwaukee Public Museum in 1961. Long out of print, this portfolio contains 34 plates taken from the Red Hawk Ledger Book. This incredible collection was in the possession of a Sioux warrior who survived the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890. In 1900, the collection was donated to the Milwaukee Public Museum, and in 1961, 36 plates were reproduced in a limited first edition printing. This portfolio is from that printing. Two of the plates are missing, Plate 2 and Plate 13, and the historical pamphlet that accompanies the prints is a reproduction of the original. The plates are in truly excellent condition without any issues whatsoever, and measure 12 inches by 15 and a quarter inches. The Red Hawk Ledger Book is arguably the best collection of Plains Indian Ledger Art in existence, and this portfolio is an historically important representation of that record. They have been carefully stored since that time, and never displayed. This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire such a desirable collection. This is a great historical printing, so don’t miss out! Beautiful pair of moccasins. This set has really great detailing to them and each one measures roughly 10.5 long.. There is some surface wear and spotting from age. The bottoms look to have been reinforced. Please see all photos for details and feel free to ask any questions. Rare & important Beaded Cradleboard made by famous maker Charles Fasthorse and Hazel Fasthorse. This man and couple are the Premier makers of beaded Lakota items. Having worked at the Prairie edge and other places in the Dakotas and plains states. Fasthorse back in the day would charge thousands of dollars for these. It is titled and signed by both Charles and Hazel. The piece measures 38″ long x 15″ wide with a depth of 9. The beaded part is 24″ x 10″ and depth of 10. The Lakota Plains Native American Beaded Cradleboard crafted by Charles & Hazel Fasthorse is a rare and handmade piece originating from North Dakota. This Antique Native American PLAINS Indian Armbands Beaded Rosette and Porcupine Hair is a true piece of history. Measures 6 inches by 6 inches. Beaded rosettes are 1 5/8 inches in diameter. Still has animal hide tie strings attached to each. Circa: 1890s to 1930s. The intricate design features horse hair and is handmade with care. No tribal affiliation, but it is clear that it was made in the United States with a Native American Plains Indian culture. This collectible is perfect for anyone interested in beads and beadwork, or for those who appreciate the rich history of Native American culture. A fine Native American Tomahawk or war club made of stone, wood covered with leather, feathers and beads. The attached tag says’Shoshone warrior, Windriver Res, Hootchoo Collection. In my opinion it appears to be an object made in the tradition of classic Native American war clubs (mainly used before tomahawks with steel blades) – the leather doesn’t show significant signs of wear. Length is 44.5 cm.
