Born in Richmond County, North Carolina in 1898, C. Wallace found his life’s calling at Zuni Pueblo, New Mexico at the age of 20. In 1918, Wallace arrived in Gallup, New Mexico and in 1919 he was hired by Louis Ilfeld at the Ilfeld Company to work at their trading post in Zuni, NM. After acquiring his trading license at Zuni Pueblo, Wallace set out to transform the lives of the Zuni people – 1,600 Zunis at the time – by encouraging them to produce high-quality silver jewelry with stone inlay for the tourist trade. Desiring a strong and fruitful relationship with the Zuni people, Wallace dedicated himself to becoming “totally acquainted” with the entire Zuni village (Wallace’s own words). “He spent’many nights each week’ after the store closed visiting the Indians in their homes and seeking to build their trust in him”. The 1920s and 1930s were years dedicated to a new way of thinking – despite tough financial times and a changing market ie. The Great Depression, the arrival of the Santa Fe Railroad & Route 66 Wallace saw opportunity for increased tourist trade and jewelry sales for Zuni Pueblo. Wallace promoted the use of traditional motifs as well, bringing over 600 examples of old pottery and other artifacts to Zuni artists as sources for inspiration. In a thirty-year span, between 1920 and 1950, Zuni jewelry-related tribal income increased from four to 65 percent. G Wallace jewelry is currently highly collectible upon many reputable dealers & collectors and you’ll also see his pieces displayed in several museums across the Nation. Wallace collectors piece is also signed on the back with a picto spade clover. This ring is roughly a size 7 and weighs a solid 10+ grams. The sterling silver setting measures 1.5″L x c 1″w; straight edge bezel in pristine condition. The Dodge Phelps Copper Queen Lavender Pit Mine where this turquoise originated from…. Operated from circa 1880 and CLOSED in 1975. This is an outstanding rare piece of Native American history and extinct turquoise jewelry for any serious collector. The impressive bisbee stone alone measures 1″L x 3/8″W; Ring is presently Sz 9 Sterling Silver split shank Band; can be resized by jeweler. This special piece with extinct turquoise was executed by Navajo Artists. The ring is heavy gauge sterling silver with a beautiful natural hand cut and polished Bisbee stone slab from a mine which closed its doors forever in 1975. Pictures are part of the description. You are looking at an important rare highly collectible vintage Hopi Handmade sterling silver 3D female figure design bolo tie set with a beautiful blue Marquis shaped turquoise stone. The bolo is handmade and signed by the famous Hopi instructor/artist JOHNNY BLUE JAY. It still has it’s natural dark patina on the silver. I added some pictures for you to see including measurements. The bolo weighs 31.3 grams. This is a must have piece for you Blue Jay collectors. It will make a great addition to any Native American collection. We have not seen any other bangles on the market right now, only cuffs. This bangle is spectacular story with extraordinary detail. See the pics for the images. Natural patina is intact. This bangle looks amazing stacked with other bangles of it’s type. We have some other bangles on our page from Floyd and Lloyd Becenti, and Tom & Sylvia Kee as well. Signed “Bct” for Floyd Becenti, Navajo artist. Width of bangle is 5/8. Diameter of bangle is 3 W. Circumference is 8 3/4. We are collectors of a Private Estate of Native American Art, Jewelry and Artifacts for over 50 years. All items, unless stated otherwise, are previously loved and used. Old Navajo Sterling Saucer Bead Necklace 24 90g? Rare Stamp Design Original A+. Nice strand of Native American hand stamped sterling silver rounded saucer beads. Wonderful shape on these beads which are approximately 8.5 mm. Not huge beads but not small. Great design with the famous crown stamp on each bead which I have only had the pleasure of owning one strand previously. Even these cones are handmade. These beads stack nicely and have a good movement, they are easy to wear and have a total weight of 90.1 g. All beads are in perfect condition and all are stamped, if you are stamped lighter than the rest which gives us a definite handmade feeling. There is one small ding in one of the Sterling cones. Total necklace has a wearable length of 24 inches. Strung on strong foxtail chain with no slack or looseness. This piece is ready to wear with a wonderful rich and dark patina that has been undisturbed.
