Navajo Gem Grade Variscite Buckle. This Large and exquisite Belt Buckle was made by a talented Navajo artist using a stunning Spiderweb Variscite stone that has lots of dark Matrix. It is Not stamp signed with a hallmark depicting the maker, nor it is stamped “Sterling” on reverse of the buckle. There is no tarnish and has its original high luster. The buckle looks, and probably is what most would consider “New”. I listed it as pre-owned, because it is… The stone is really the story here and this gem grade Variscite stone is magnificent. It seems to have all the characteristics and look of a stone mined in the Candelaria area in Nevada. You may notice that this stone, with its interesting “globules” and dark background, could be mistaken for Turquoise from the same area. In the United States, Variscite is also mined in Utah and Wyoming. It is generally more rare than Turquoise, but it is not incorporated in Native jewelry as commonly as Turquoise. The mining region is located about 50 miles west of Tonoph, Nevada. Turquoise was first mined by a Mexican in about 1885. This stone is luminous and radiant. This exceptional material is appreciated and used by many of the best Native American jewelers. I hope you like it! Handmade by Navajo silversmith Andy Cadman, Andy comes from a long line of silversmiths and learned his trade from his brothers Daniel “Sunshine” Reeves, and Gary Reeves. Andy Cadman makes beautiful Navajo silver works of art, implementing deep hand stamped designs that cover his entire creations. This is a sterling silver Navajo handmade wide band ring, with a natural rare high grade Colina Verde Variscite stone. The stone is a beautiful pale lime green color with a brown web matrix. The stone sits in a smooth bezel with a hand twisted rope of silver at the base. The silver work is extraordinary and done in traditional old style Navajo fashion. Andy added fans, beads, and twisted silver wire to the sides of the beautiful stone. He covered the entire ring in deep Navajo stamp work. Andy finished the silver work with a beautiful dark oxidation and a high shine. This ring is a size 7.25. The face of this ring measures 7/8 inch and the band measures 3/4 inch, and tapers down to 7/16 inch, the stone measures 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch. Weighs 15.7 grams.
