Although this World War II veteran only had about 30 short years of jewelry making, his talent and techniques are still recognized. Simplicio is one of the first known artists to begin incorporating natural red coral branches and rough-cut coral nuggets into his jewelry. As early as 1931, it is also said that he is possibly one of the first Zuni artists to begin using gold. Simplicio worked at C. Wallace’s trading post and collaborated with amazing Zuni artists including LEEKYA DEYUSE, Teddie Weahkee, Leo Poblano, Bernard Homer and Lee Edakkie. Throughout his time, he developed an inapt ability to create stunning leaf motifs with intricate stamps and carved details, beginning his signature balance of delicate leaf work and heavy turquoise and coral designs (Four Winds Gallery). This Beautiful rare vintage Zuni handmade bold sterling silver ring has Simplicio’s signature stamped leaf design Appliqué on both sides of the ring and also notice the sterling snake over the eye catching turquoise & red coral gemstones. A stunning collector’s piece. Gorgeous colors on both stones. This ring was made for a large finger size. If you look at the pictures you’ll notice the ring on the sizer and though it stops at size 14, there is still a gap on the top & bottom of the inner band. I’m not sure exactly the size but it’s made for at least a size 14++ finger (see pics). The ring weighs a heavy 27+ grams. Old Bell Trading Post Sterling Silver Blue Turquoise Small Navajo Ring Size 4. This amazing old Fred Harvey era Navajo Bell Trading Post sterling silver ring has a long blue turquoise stone from the Blue Diamond turquoise mine. The stone is set in a sawtooth bezel setting surrounded by a sterling silver braided rope and the entire edge is made up of a series of handcrafted unique design silver beads. The ring also has a hand-sawed split shank. This is definitely a stunning one-of-a-kind Native American ring. The inside of the band is stamped STERLING and has the Bell Trading Post hallmark. The turquoise stone measures 14.5mm long by 5.5mm wide. The ring is a rare small size 4 and weighs 3.8 grams. This lovely old Native American Bell Trading Post sterling silver and turquoise ring is in very good pre-owned condition, as shown in the photos. Has not been professionally cleaned so as not to compromise the beauty of the natural patina. Please see the photos as they are part of the description and to assess the condition. Spectacular Harry Morgan Ring. The kind that makes a collectors heart skip a beat. This stone is unlike any other stone I have ever seen and the size of it makes it even that much more impressive. The color is beautiful, the matrix is unique and the size of the stone is perfect. This is definitely the kind of ring that goes in the vault and worn for special occasions. I mean can you believe that stone?? It’s pure perfection. The last picture is this ring and 2 other rings made by Harry Morgan to show the difference in size! The other 2 rings are also listed for sale in other listings. (this listing is only for the 1 Harry Morgan ring). Harry Morgan’s jewelry looks as though it could have been made a century ago. The stamps he uses to decorate his work were inherited from his parents and uncles if they were not his own. Much of his work was made with silver he rolled himself and he only used the finest natural turquoise. He puts a satin finish on every piece to give it an antique look. “That’s the way old style jewelry should look, ” he explains. When silver is all shined up it hides all of the intricate detail in the stamp work and the bezels. This older style is what I grew up with and what I love. He learned to silversmith while still in high school, and in 1965 after graduating, he began working with his uncles, Charlie Bitsui and Ike Wilson, two of the finest Navajo silversmiths. Both of them had many pieces in the famous C. Wallace collection, one of the finest collections of Native American jewelry ever assembled. He learned to do all types of silver work, from sand casting to fabrication. He credits his jewelry interest to his mother and her work. He won awards at every major Indian art show and had an exhibit featuring his work at the Heard Museum North in 2007, the year before he died. Harry lived near Gallup, New Mexico, where he grew up and was an rancher and avid horseman. Three of his five children–Kelley, Greg and Jacob–have taken up the art form. I told them all to find something the love and stick with it. I’m glad that some of them have learned to silversmith. I get paid for doing what I love to do. That’s the best part of being a silversmith.
