You are looking at an important rare Early Navajo coin silver tobacco canteen, a traditional Southwestern artifact likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The canteen is handcrafted from two domed silver discs soldered together, featuring a twisted silver-wire “rope” rim. It showcases intricate rocker-engraving and hand-stamped patterns. The central motif consists of radial lines and crescent shapes. It includes a lidded spout with a cap secured by a handmade silver chain. These flasks were mostly used by the Navajo for carrying loose-leaf or ground-up tobacco. Could’ve also been used to hold water or medicine. This piece is made from either coin or sterling silver. Truly a rare find. This piece is larger than most of the canteens you normally see for sale online. It stands over 4 tall and weighs over 85 grams.
