The Hemis Katsinas (Kachina) are considered some of the most beautiful and best known of all the early Zuni and Hopi Kachinas. Their elaborate headdress, called a Tableta, is partly responsible for their attraction as well as other attributions such as a kilt with embroidered rain sash around the waist and dropping down one side of the hip along with the bundled chaff or evergreen ruff worn around the neck. Shona Hah Lelooska Native American Hand Carved Doll 1930-70 rare miniature 4.5
Shona-Hah Lelooska Native American Hand Carved Doll. It has a Chilcat blanket wrapped around it’s shoulders. I think this is representing a Haida elder. Her dolls are cultually significant. Her dolls are normally larger than this. The others I have seen are normally around 12 tall. This one is 4.5. Shona-Hah is the matriarch of the Lelooska family. She is mother to Chief Don Lelooska, Patty Fawn and Tsungani. Don was a prominent member of the tribe and was a storyteller. Many children in Northwest remember taking trips to see him and the stories he would tell and traditions he kept alive. Patty Fawn is known for her jewelry that she creates. Her dolls are highly valued and collected by private collectors and museums. Her dolls were often a collaboration with her son Chief Don Lelooska. Chief Lelooska would often help Shona Hah carve the heads and hands of her dolls. He was a highly respected artist in his own right whose carvings are highly regarded among museums and collectors. The costumes that the dolls wear are handmade by her. This could be really rare because her dolls are normally much larger. RARE Native American Carved Amber Zuni Fetish 3 Strand Hummingbird Necklace
C e l es ti a l N o n e s u ch. A rare, antique, three strand, carved Amber Zuni Hummingbird fetish necklace, with heishe shell beads. I have only found one piece such as this and it was attributed to Zuni artisan Lena Boone. This piece has unmarked silver (tested) cone ends and clasp. I believe with the unmarked silver this piece dates to pre 1930. I have counted 63 hummingbirds total on this piece. The Amber bird beads face to the center on either side of this necklace. Two large birds have three strands running through them. There is a large carved Amber hummingbird as the center pendant, facing directly up. The luscious Amber ranges widely in color and transparency. It is really difficult to capture the beauty of this piece in words. The Amber is carved so finely and delicately, combined with the inherent fiery and warm nature of Amber, creates a visual effect like that of glistening honey. This piece is truly exceptional, the Amber exudes a warmth upon the skin. This piece exhibits signs of age, such as a deep patination of the silver hardware, as well as surface wear and weathering to the beads. There are several hummingbirds that have a bit of damage on them such as missing a bit of tail. Overall this piece is in very nice condition. Please enlarge all photographs to better ascertain detail and condition of this piece! Length (when unclasped) 25. Length of large hummingbird pendant bead 1.4. Length of small hummingbird beads Range 0.75″ – 1.125″. Length of large hummingbirds with three strands 1.6. Thank you for shopping with us. Follow us for quality items and other assorted.
