This extremely rare Cahuilla Mission offering basket tray is tightly woven with juncas grass coiled over a grass bundle. Attributed to Ramona Lubo, a Cahuilla basket weaver who died in 1922. She was the inspiration for the book “Ramona” by Helen Hunt Jackson, and the play entitled “The Ramona Pageant”. She made this basket with the star center design that symbolizes Juan Diego, her husband now in heaven. The designs around the star are stems with three flower petals on each symbolizing her two children and herself. Circa: 1885 Diameter: 8 1/4″ Height: 1″.
