Offered is a rare piece. This is a large 15 Northern California Pit River Achumawi Gambling Tray. The previous owners had a tag attached that dated it to 1890s and provided the reference to the American Indian Basketry of Northern California book by the Riverside Museum Press to a similar basket. A flexible basket, it is in excellent condition. No breaks or damage that I can find. A few pinhole gaps in weaving. A few rough areas, but this appears to be as made. I’ve provided some options. Sometimes UPS is the cheapest way to send larger pieces. A note: We’re all healthy here and are isolated and washing hands regularly. If you’re worried just leave your packages in a garage or porch area for a few days before opening. Thanks and be well. Most of the items we sell come from our personal collection gathered over the years from our travels, from Native powwows and craft stores, antique shops, auctions and estate sales. Now that our kids are in college and beyond, we are letting some items go so others can enjoy them. Then I’ll send you a combined invoice. Sorry for the expense, but I’ve had items lost overseas when mailing first class and don’t want to take the risk of losing items. I pack carefully and try to reuse materials to save on environmental impact. I often double-box items with smaller gift boxes collected from various thrift stores. I reuse all that I receive and hope you will make use of the ones that come in your packages. Alex Sanchez has been making jewelry for over 15 years. He makes beautiful works of art in contemporary and traditional fashion. He is most known for his Petroglyph style that he has been perfecting for some time. His traditional work is fascinating as well, he uses some of the best turquoise in his works and builds the silver around the stones. His Petroglyph works include suns, bears, dragonflies, stars, and many other designs. He overlays these designs on a beautiful textured and oxidized background. Alex is a world class Navajo artist and his works will be very collectible for years to come. This is a handmade sterling silver Maiden Face, Navajo wide band ring, with a natural rare gem grade Red River Turquoise stone. The stone is a beautiful blue/green color with a an amazing red/brown webbed matrix. The stone sits in a smooth bezel. The silver work is done in Alex’s contemporary petroglyph style. Alex appliqued a circle of life, and stamped a dragonfly (for beauty) on the face. He stamped the wide band with bears (for strength). Alex completed this piece with an amazing high shine. This ring is a size 9. The face of this ring measures 1-3/8 inch and the band measures 9/16 inch, the stone measures 3/4 inch by 5/16 inch. Weight 24.3 grams. Stamped Sterling and Alex Sanchez.
