Starshine Morningstar Gotz Native American Navajo Indian Doll 18 Box Rare Stand
STARSHINE “MORNINGSTAR” GOTZ NATIVE AMERICAN NAVAJO INDIAN DOLL. This one is named “Morningstar”, the first Starshine Doll to be produced. It was made from about 1989 to 1993. She was designed and created by Robin Holland in Fort Collins, Colorado. Under special agreement with Gotz Dolls, Holland used Gotz doll bodies, heads (minus wigs) and torsos to authentically and accurately create dolls that represent the historical, cultural, and traditional appearance of various Native American Indian tribes. Morningstar represents the Navajo tribe. This doll was created in a limited-edition, but the quantity made is unknown. Morningstar stands about 18 tall. She has the Starshine facial mold with black sleep eyes and a black modacrylic wig. Her long hair is worn in two small side braids with a white feather and red ties. Morningstar’s outfit is a traditional Navajo-style shirt with a green skirt. She is wearing a bird fetish necklace and concho belt. The doll has a soft cloth body with vinyl limbs. Her white moccasins are made of leather. The back of the doll’s neck is marked “Gotz-Puppe” and her body is stamped with the Starshine Doll name and address. Her original hang tag is still attached, which includes information about the Navajo tribe. The doll also comes with her original box. This doll is extra special because it comes with a VERY RARE doll stand made by Allison Dolly Prop specifically for Starshine dolls. This one has a sheep and cactus. This one appears to be quite scarce, as I can’t find another example pictured anywhere online. Condition of this Starshine Morningstar doll is EXCELLENT. Her hair needs some restyling, but she is complete and undamaged. Her clothing is clean and she came from a non-smoking home. The doll stand is also in great condition. The box is intact but has significant wear and the top is pushed in some. Overall, this vintage doll looks fantastic and would make a fine addition to any collection. Please take a close look at the many photos I’ve provided and judge condition for yourself. These dolls are quite scarce and are in high demand. See my other listings. For more great items! Traditional Bird Fetish Necklace & Concho Belt. Original Costume With White Moccasins. Rare Sheep & Cactus Doll Stand. Rear Side of Hang Tag. I will insure this item at my own expense. Frankly, it doesn’t get any better than this. Livingston pin/pendant on a stand is rare, perfect and hugely collectible! The sterling incredibly detailed piece has raised hands, etc. On the sterling and sterling detailed feathers from the headdress. The face is intricately carved intarsia of hard stone, sardonyx, turquoise, etc. And the lower part is intarsia of coral, onyx, turquoise, etc. As if this were not sufficient, there is a stand on which the piece can be displayed (the stand holder is part of the back of the piece). The stand, also carved and signed, is solid rhodochrosite. The piece measures 3.5″ by 1.25″ and the stand is 2″ by 1″. Paul Livingston was born in Gallup, NM in 1954 and has lived on the Navajo Church Rock Reservation his entire life. Studying jewelry with his uncle, he went on his own at 22 years of age. His work, collected internationally, is known for his attention to detail, his use of gems and materials not commonly used in Native American pieces and his rare talents and skills as a gem saw artist. Thus, the use of sardonyx and his intarsia work. If in the Gloucester, MA area, do stop by my shop on Main St–DIVA for an unrivaled selection of pieces from every time period, in every metal and at great prices. I have also been a maker and designer for almost 50 years. If you seek a particular piece, please do let me know! Please contact me with any questions/additional information needs. RARE VINTAGE NAVAJO BUTTERFLY MAIDEN KACHINA with STAND NATIVE AMERICAN
RARE VINTAGE NAVAJO BUTTERFLY MAIDEN KACHINA w/ STAND NATIVE AMERICAN. This is a very rare find. This is an antique Navajo kachina hand-carved out of a cottonwood representing the Butterfly Maiden of the Hopi Culture. This kachina has been verbally dated to around the 1930s by Mark Bahti of Bahti Indian Arts of Tucson and Santa Fe, paperwork will be included. The paperwork from Mark Bahti constitutes a professional analysis of the kachina, tribe and materials. This rare kachina falls into the Navajo folk art category. That being said, it is an incredible piece. This antique Native American, Butterfly Maiden kachina stands 12-1/4″ tall in the stand, 9-1/4″ wide across the her tablita (headdress) and approximately 4-1/4 wide across the body. This kachina has a lot of wear to it. This unique kachina was carved out of a cottonwood limb, it is incredibly thick and sturdy. One of the crosses on her tablita is broken off. She has stains, some splits in the wood, scratches and a lot of rub to it, but in spite of that, it is in remarkably good condition for a kachina that is nearly 100 years old. Bahti states he feels she was painted with an old style of poster paint. She was originally designed to be hung by the neck as traditional Hopi kachinas are, but I have included a stand for your convenience. It can be displayed either way. This rare kachina would be an outstanding addition to any Western or Native American collection! Don’t forget to take a look at our other sales for more unique items. RARE 1930s ERA ANTIQUE NAVAJO MONGWA KACHINA w/ STAND LARGE NATIVE AMERICAN. This is a very rare find. This is an antique Navajo kachina hand-carved out of cottonwood representing the Great Horned Owl Kachina, Mongwa. This kachina has been dated to around the 1930s by Mark Bahti of Bahti Indian Arts of Tucson and Santa Fe, paperwork will be included. The paperwork from Mark Bahti constitutes a professional analysis of the kachina, tribe and materials. This rare kachina falls into the Navajo folk art category. That being said, it is an incredible piece. This antique Native American, Mongwa kachina stands approximately 10-1/2″ tall in the stand, approximately 9-3/4″ tall out of the stand, approximately 4″ wide across the body, 7″ wide across the carved wings at the top of the head. The body of this kachina is approximately 3 deep at the one complete arm. One of the arms is missing. Also, the nose and arm have been repaired and glued back together. Bahti feels it was painted with an old style of poster paint. This kachina has a few stains, some splits in the wood, scratches and some rub to it, but in spite of that, it is in remarkably good condition for a kachina that is nearly 100 years old. It is wearing a woven wool skirt, some type of woolen yarn for a sash around its waist, a suede cape, some sort of dyed string around its neck for a ruff and some very old feathers wrapped together for a headdress. It was originally designed to be hung by the neck as traditional Hopi kachinas are, but I have included a stand for your convenience. It can be displayed either way. RARE 1920s ANTIQUE NAVAJO KACHINA w/ TABLITA & STAND LARGE NATIVE AMERICAN. This is a very rare find. This is an antique Navajo kachina hand-carved out of a cottonwood limb. This kachina has been dated to around 1920 by Mark Bahti of Bahti Indian Arts of Tucson and Santa Fe, paperwork will be included. The paperwork from Mark Bahti constitutes a professional analysis of the kachina, tribe, date and materials. This rare kachina falls into the Navajo folk art category. That being said, it is an incredible piece. This antique Native American kachina stands 21-1/2″ tall, approximately 4-1/2″ wide across the body, 9-1/8″ wide across the tablita and the body of this kachina is approximately 3″ deep. It measures 13 tall without the tablita in place. It has a feather ruff around its neck. It looks as though at one point the tablita (headdress) had been glued to the head of the kachina but has since come loose. The new owner can decide whether to leave the kachina the way it is or have it restored to where the tablita (headdress) is actually attached to the doll again. Bahti states that the doll had been painted with a type of old poster paint. He says the orange paint suggests a date of about 1920. The tablita was originally attached with store bought dowels (please see photos) and the circular elements of the tablita are hand-tied to the tablita board. One of the feet is chipped in back, please see photos. The wood has also chipped away around the earpieces in a few spots, but it still does a fine job of holding the tablita in place. This kachina has a few stains, some splits in the wood and some rub to it, but in spite of that, it is in remarkably good condition for a kachina that is nearly 100 years old. This unique kachina was carved out of a cottonwood limb, it is incredibly thick and sturdy. I have included the metal stand in this sale. This kachina originally hung like the traditional ones do, but it presents quite nicely on the stand. This very rare kachina would be an outstanding addition to any Western or Native American collection! Don’t forget to take a look at our other sales for more unique items.
