Native American Rare Antique Rawhide Beaded Childs Sioux Leggings
This unique pair of a young boys rawhide leggings is probably Sioux and appears to be from the late nineteenth to the early twentieth century. Measurements for each leg are about 22 in total length, from the rawhide ties with metal buckle at the top, to the beaded cuffs below; about 12 in seamed closure from middle of each legging to the cuff; and about 12 in leg opening. Colored seed beads of white, dark blue, medium blue, black, golden brown, red, and orange form bold, geometric patterns that decorate the front of the leggings and the cuffs. Rows of domed brass buttons and tassels of larger white and blue beads accent the front design. Minor wear issues, consistent with age and original use, include: minor losses of beads on edges of cuffs; a few loose threads at tops of beaded, front panels; a few, almost imperceptible spots; a hole at the top of the right legging; and one early, hand-stitched repair, about 1¾ in length, above the panel on right leg. These minor issues can be repaired and, overall, this pair of leggings is in very good antique condition. No restorations or modifications have been made. Gifted from a private collection and then stored for many years; clean and no odors. This pair of childs leggings is a rare example of both function and artistry in Native American culture! Dnnnis Nancy Edaakie book piece BOLO ZUNI and matching belt buckle museum items. Nancy started out doing some of the inlay details on Dennis’s work and now does all of the inlay… According to the Kennedy Museum of Art website. Dennis Edaakie was born in 1931 and was a member of the Parrot Clan. He was active silversmithing from 1954 until his death in 2008. He collaborated from about 1965 onwards with his wife Nancy, who was born in 1937 and a member of the Frog Clan. Rare & Unusual Early 1900 Native American Salish Fully Imbricated Jar Basket
Very Rare & Unusual Early 1900 Native American Northwest Salish Fully Imbricated Jar Basket in Shape of Gourd. Here is a very very unusual gourd shape fully imbricated possible seed jar basket made by one of the tribes in lower Washington. I had couple of collectors look at it and they both thought this was made by one of the tribes along the Columbia river. There are no sap on outside or inside so water jar was ruled out so we thought this might have been made to put seeds in? He said he bought this basket because. It was interesting looking. I’m sure collectors of northwest baskets will find this one very interesting. The baskets are in good shape overall with wear and some loose imbrication. Please see photos as part of description. Feel free to ask me any questions and I will gladly answer any questions you might have. Thank you, 7.3″H x 5.4″W x 5.3D Weights approximately Under 1LB.
