Biography Born in Sioux City, Iowa in 1937, artist Frank Howell was a central figure in the Southwest Native Art Movement and was best known for creating meticulously painted portraits of Native Americans. Frank Howell’s paintings drew inspiration from his own Lakota Sioux heritage, and his art captured the relationship between the physical and spiritual worlds in the culture. He moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in the late 1960s where he opened The Howell Gallery. A versatile artist, Frank Howell was also a proficient photographer, skillful lithographer, and worked using a number of other media such as drawings and sculpture. Following his death in 1997, Frank Howell art for sale is in high demand by avid collectors. This is not the limited edition version print. But is a hand signed and dated print dated 1994.

This vintage Navajo necklace was hand crafted by well known silversmith Frank Yellowhorse (2/14/33-8/13/2020). The pendant measures approximately 2.5″ wide and 2″ high and is suspended from a large sterling bale. The detail of inlay in this piece is simply amazing. Yellowhorse utilized turquoise, malachite, jet, orange and purple spiny oyster. The pendant is stamped Frank Yellowhorse, Navajo, sterling and with an imprint of his signature horse. The pendant weight is 37.7 grams total.
