Rare Lakota Sioux Indian Pipe Tomahawk Very Old Forged Head Gun Barrel Bowl
Nice old Lakota Sioux pipe tomahawk with original haft and head. The head is forged and very old. Very well taken care of! The surface of the head still retains much of its original luster. The bowl has an octagonal opening and rifling inside, originating from an old gun barrel. This is a classical example of mid 1700’s blacksmith technique. The bowl is applied to the eye. The old ash haft is decorated with very old brass tacks and prolific file brandings. The haft has been carved into a hexagon shape, faceted. The haft is a work of art, museum quality. Excellent condition over all. The head measuring 7.25 inches long, the haft measuring 17 inches long. Send me your offers. From a relative’s advanced collection. Antique AMERICAN INDIAN WARS 1902 Sioux Apache Kiowa Ute Comanche RARE PHOTOS
Note: Many of my clients are scholars and researchers seeking specific information related to their field of interest. For their convenience I include the following details directly from this book. Including Fantastic War Dances, Mysterious Medicine Men, Desperate Indian Braves, Tortures of Prisoners; Daring Deeds; Adventures of the Chase, Etc. Superbly Illustrated with Phototype and Wood Engravings. By Ella Hines Stratton. Published in 1902 (no publisher cited). 10 x 7 cloth hardcover with front pastedown illustration. Illustrated with color frontispiece, monochromatic half-tone photos (blue like cyanotype, red, black and white), along with text illustrations and one other color page. Exterior as shown in photo with some surface wear on front board, also some nicking and fraying of cloth on spine, edgewear, rubbing at corners. Binding is still pretty good, hinges unbroken, text block secure. One or two illustrated pages near the middle have roughened edges and a bit of soiling but remain intact. Text is complete and generally clean aside from occasional finger smudges. Occasional small edge tears in the margins, nothing serious. Otherwise no torn, loose or missing pages. Gift inscription on first endpaper. Good surviving example of this rare American Indian title from the turn of the century. This is a rare and beautiful book about Native American history, focused largely on famous Indian leaders and conflicts with Europeans/white settlers during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. It was probably written for a younger audience (the text is presented as an ongoing dialogue) yet it presents a great deal of information and contains more than a hundred antique photos and illustrations of American Indians and scenes related to their history. Certainly a wonderful 118-year-old title and collectible, a great introduction to some of Americas greatest true Indian stories. In order to give you the most accurate description of this rare and fascinating book, I have provided some helpful details below, starting with a detailed summary of the contents, followed by an equally thorough summary of the books hundred-plus photos and illustrations. Further down this page, you can see some of these historic images for yourself. Due to the historical significance of this work and its valuable Native American portraiture, I took the liberty of including more than the usual complement of pictures. It may take an extra few seconds to load, but well worth it. I hope youll take a few moments to have a look. Native American Rare Antique Rawhide Beaded Childs Sioux Leggings
This unique pair of a young boys rawhide leggings is probably Sioux and appears to be from the late nineteenth to the early twentieth century. Measurements for each leg are about 22 in total length, from the rawhide ties with metal buckle at the top, to the beaded cuffs below; about 12 in seamed closure from middle of each legging to the cuff; and about 12 in leg opening. Colored seed beads of white, dark blue, medium blue, black, golden brown, red, and orange form bold, geometric patterns that decorate the front of the leggings and the cuffs. Rows of domed brass buttons and tassels of larger white and blue beads accent the front design. Minor wear issues, consistent with age and original use, include: minor losses of beads on edges of cuffs; a few loose threads at tops of beaded, front panels; a few, almost imperceptible spots; a hole at the top of the right legging; and one early, hand-stitched repair, about 1¾ in length, above the panel on right leg. These minor issues can be repaired and, overall, this pair of leggings is in very good antique condition. No restorations or modifications have been made. Gifted from a private collection and then stored for many years; clean and no odors. This pair of childs leggings is a rare example of both function and artistry in Native American culture! The item “NATIVE AMERICAN RARE ANTIQUE RAWHIDE BEADED CHILDS SIOUX LEGGINGS” is in sale since Sunday, October 25, 2020. Very Rare Antique (massive) Sioux Tomahawk, 18th to 19th century Indian Wars
It is massive with 1.08 kg, a characteristic of the very early tomahawks. The metal head/blade was made by the white blacksmiths (interestingly, the logo on blade looks like “Morning Star”, which is very famous to the Indians), and traded to the Indians either directly or via specialized companies (such as the “American Fur Trade Company”). The tribe of tomahawk should be Sioux (according to its origin when acquired and its adornment). It is a rare find nowadays as it is a very early tomahawk decorated with antique red porcupine quills, and a couple of brass tacks and tin cones. Of note, the antique wooden handle (crude cut from tree branch) appears to have some remains of red/redish color, suggesting it had been tinted in red (with pigments) at one time. All is original and antique on this particularly impressive tomahawk. Size (metal head/blade): 7.48 inches. Overall length of tomahawk: 20.47 inches. Weight of tomahawk: 1.08 kg! The item “Very Rare Antique (massive) Sioux Tomahawk, 18th to 19th century Indian Wars” is in sale since Friday, June 7, 2019. This item is in the category “Antiques\Ethnographic\Native American”. The seller is “sphany13″ and is located in Châteauneuf le Rouge. This item can be shipped worldwide.
