Very Rare Antique (massive) Sioux Tomahawk, 18th to 19th century Indian Wars
It is massive with 1.08 kg, a characteristic of the very early tomahawks. The metal head/blade was made by the white blacksmiths (interestingly, the logo on blade looks like “Morning Star”, which is very famous to the Indians), and traded to the Indians either directly or via specialized companies (such as the “American Fur Trade Company”). The tribe of tomahawk should be Sioux (according to its origin when acquired and its adornment). It is a rare find nowadays as it is a very early tomahawk decorated with antique red porcupine quills, and a couple of brass tacks and tin cones. Of note, the antique wooden handle (crude cut from tree branch) appears to have some remains of red/redish color, suggesting it had been tinted in red (with pigments) at one time. All is original and antique on this particularly impressive tomahawk. Size (metal head/blade): 7.48 inches. Overall length of tomahawk: 20.47 inches. Weight of tomahawk: 1.08 kg! The item “Very Rare Antique (massive) Sioux Tomahawk, 18th to 19th century Indian Wars” is in sale since Friday, June 7, 2019. This item is in the category “Antiques\Ethnographic\Native American”. Rare Native American Hand Made Pipe Axe Tomahawk Forged Spontoon Cutaway Head
WOW here is an RARE NATIVE AMERICAN HAND MADE PIPE AXE TOMAHAWK FORGED SPONTOON CUTAWAY HEAD. This is a very rare and special Native American Hand Made Pipe Axe Tomahawk. This as well as some other rare Native American pieces come from a large collection that I have the pleasure of helping liquidate. The axe handle measures 22 inches long and the axe head / with pip measures 10 inches long. Its in amazing condition for its age with normal wear. It has nice brass tacks around the top of the handle and amazing detail to the axe head with a cut out heart shape two holes, and two scrolls. I checked the pipe shaft to see if it is clear, and it seems to be a little clogged from age, although I can feel some airflow come through with I blow air through the Pipe. Im unsure of the exact date, but know it is pre 1900s. Let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for looking! LETS MAKE A DEAL!!! The item “RARE NATIVE AMERICAN HAND MADE PIPE AXE TOMAHAWK FORGED SPONTOON CUTAWAY HEAD” is in sale since Friday, November 8, 2019. 18th Century Native American Indian Pipe Tomahawk Historically Rare Long Island
Historically rare early east coast forged Pipe Tomahawk circa 1775 or before. Measures 8 1/4 in length and has an early type of forging. This rare find is one of only a few original pipe tomahawk heads ever found. This item was found in the early 1970’s by Charles Greenman in a junk shop in Long Island, New York. He asked the store owner where it came from and he said a local farmer outside the city brought it in after plowing it up on his farm. Charles eventually gave it to his son Carlos Greenman who still resides in Ojo Caliente Hot Springs in New Mexico. I bought it from Lynn Canterbury in September of this year at a show in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This item was dug decades ago and is truly an American treasure. Belongs in a Museum. Guaranteed all original and authentic. The item “18th Century Native American Indian Pipe Tomahawk Historically Rare Long Island” is in sale since Sunday, November 10, 2019. Such axes are rare, as they were made in small numbers and only used by a small handful of tribes along the upper Missouri River basin. This example shows a blacksmith hand-forged iron exceptionally large size Axe Head. The huge head is decorated with deeply filed lines over the poll, plus molding sat the base of the blade. Punched dots form a cluster at the base of the blade and borders along its front and back, as well as around the piercings. The surface of the metal shows a nice patina. These piercing consist of a heart in the center and two sunbursts, one at the leading edge and one at the heel. The wooden haft is plain, It is pierced for a thong. The bison leather thong is present and in very good condition(But the thong is quite possibly a modern imitation). This is truly an excellent and early tomahawk that has been photographed and published in the book AMERICAN INDIAN TOMAHAWKS 1971 by HAROLD L PETERSON On page number 185, figure number 51. An almost identical Axe is in the collections of the American Museum of Natural History. Collected from the Osage. The axe measures 22.5 L overall with an axe head that is 9 L by 5.5 W of thin forged iron. The Axe is overall in very good condition consistence with the age.
