This beautiful sterling silver ring, signed by Thomas Singer, features stunning Native American storytelling overlay design. The ring is a size 6.5 and is made of 925 silver, with intricate details of Western art, signs and symbols, and ethnic themes. The ring is handmade and comes from the Navajo tribe in the United States. The ring is a rare find and perfect for anyone who appreciates unique and beautiful jewelry. The detailed design of the ring is a true work of art and is sure to make a statement. Add this gorgeous piece to your collection today! Tommy Singer used many traditional deities and designs of the Navajo people in his jewelry. In this ring he depicts a Hogan, plants, trees, mountains, a wagon and either a loom or teepee. Was born in 1940 and sadly left this earth on May 31, 2014. He lived in Winslow, Arizona where he resided with his wife Rose and their children and grandchildren. He grew up in a small community of Dilcon on the Navajo Reservation while learning the silversmith trade from his father Tsinnigine Hathali, a Navajo Medicine Man when he was just 7 years old. In the 1960’s, Mr. Singer became famous for inventing the use of turquoise and coral chips in silverwork devised from the lingering chips of turquoise and coral left on his workshop floor. While using the “chip inlay” technique combined with his amazing craftsmanship mixed with the abstract modern Native American style of design Mr. Singer conveyed on his jewelry, he became a household name in the states and abroad. Chip inlay is a method where cavities in jewelry are filled with a mixture of crushed stone, typically turquoise and coral, and epoxy resin. The piece is then polished smoothly after the resin has hardened. Singer’s chip inlay technique was heavily copied in the southwest and even in imports from Asia. In fact, this style of jewelry became so popular in the 1960’s and 1970’s that you would see it everywhere. Frustrated, he stopped creating chip inlaid jewelry and started focusing on the silver overlay method which he originally studied in the beginning of his silversmith career. His silver overlay jewelry exhibited traditional Navajo designs; some incorporating gold in the overlay. He was also known for carving storyteller scenes with tremendous detail and skill. Tommy Singer was a famous prolific successful artist and those who knew him said he was a friendly and generous man. Today his work commands very high prices which continues to gain in value. Collectors of his work hold onto his pieces with great respect and love. It is hard to find these classic vintage chip inlay pieces which have survived with Mr. Singer’s hallmark visible! As you can tell in this ring, it is fast wearing away.. If only you knew how many of Mr. The hallmark could have worn away over the years of normal wear and tear. That’s what metals do-they wear down, erode, rub out, get thin and the hallmark will eventually disappear. This is your chance to own an original and rare Native American masterpiece from a truly talented and gifted man! THANKS FOR LOOKING AND HAVE A GREAT DAY!!! INFO FOR BUYERS. Tommy grew up in a small community of Dilcon on the Navajo reservation. Tommy Singer was a Navajo silversmith who specialized in chip-inlay jewelry. His inlaid turquoise, coral, and silver pieces incorporated traditional Navajo designs. Singer gained acclaim as the originator of the chip inlay design. Because of this innovation. Tommy is considered by many as one of the greatest contemporary Indian jewelry silversmiths of our time. Even though he was world renowned, he worked on the Navajo reservation in a small studio surrounded with his family and other tribal members. The Singer family has been involved in silversmithing, stone and beadwork for a very long time, handing the art down from one generation to another. Tommy was a silversmith for over 50 years. He learned the art of silversmithing from his father when he was just 7 years old. His Father Tsinnigine Hathali was a Navajo Medicine man. Tommy incorporates many traditional sandpainting and rug designs of the Navajo People into his jewelry. Tommy began creating jewelry full-time at the age of 21. His early works were done in the silver overlay technique. His work soon began to feature Turquoise stones. While working with scrap turquoise chips, Tommy pioneered the technique of Chip inlay used by thousands of artists to this day. For many years Tommy and his brothers created Jewelry using the Chip inlay style. His current work often includes 14 Karat Gold Overlaid on Silver. Tommy also carved storyteller scenes and silver bead necklaces with tremendous skill. When asked about his work, Singer said, Every piece is made with the various meanings from my traditional ways – the Navajo way of living. My father was a. He taught me, and wanted me to continue this trade. It was my father’s dream that I learn to silversmith so that I could continue his beliefs. His work is well known internationally and is featured in a number of Indian art publications. One can easily recognize Tommy’s work. He marks his finished pieces with T. Singer” or with “T and a crescent moon. Whether Tommy created a bolo tie, buckle, ring, necklace, pendant, or bracelet, he stated that, All my jewelry is. Made to satisfy my customer. Each piece is unique and is made very different. I try hard to make different styles and designs of my jewelry. His legacy of work will continue to live on for many years. In fact, Rosita (Rose) and the family have continued Tommy’s legacy by creating jewelry with his designs. Tommy and his wife Rose came up with a new hallmark before his death which is “T&R Singer”. His work was included in the 2002 exhibit. Jewels of the Southwest. At the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture in Santa Fe, NM among other prestigious museum exhibits. VERY RARE VINTAGE TOMMY SINGER STERLING SILVER OVERLAY EAGLE EARRINGS SIGNED Tc (crescent moon). 7/8 tall and 5/8 wide. 4 grams (weighed without backings). Tc- very early Tommy Singer hallmark T with the crescent moon-see photographs. Please look at ALL photographs postedthere is always one or two photos with ruler measurements in every listing created to give you an accurate. Early old Tommy Singer sterling silver overlay eagle earrings and extremely rare!!! If you read the small bio I have written below, you will notice Tommy Singer originally started creating overlay jewelry pieces, some fitted with turquoise stone. Then he came across chips of turquoise wasted on the workshop floor and being a genius that he most certainly was, he developed the chip inlay technique. The Overlay method is when two pieces of silver are soldered together after a design has been cut from the top layer, creating a negative design. Most silversmiths would create metal templates of their designs, which would allow them to trace a design onto the sheet of metal. The designs would then be cut out using a tiny saw blade. The templates could be used over and over and mixed together to create unique jewelry pieces. So, why are these earrings rare? These earrings were created when Mr. Singer was starting to learn the silversmith craft in the 1960s; way before he started using the chip inlay technique. Also, the hallmark stamped on the earrings is the letter T with a crescent moon shape, a very early Tommy Singer hallmark! That makes these earrings over 50 years old and created by the master when he was discovering his skill! The earrings are not marked. 925 or sterling, but have been tested positive with. No marks or cosmetic damage to the pieces. It is common for the sterling mark to be missing in early Native American vintage jewelry. Was born in 1940 and passed away May 31, 2014. Early Navajo Signed Sterling Tommy Singer Hair Clip 3 Inches 32 Grams Rare
This beautiful hand made sterling silver hair clip is 3 1/4 inches long by 1 3/4 inch in width. Made with a abstract Navajo design in overlay technique the weight is 32 grams. It’s signed with the hallmark of renowned Navajo artist Tommy Singer (RIP) who specialized in overlay, later adding crushed stone to the recessed areas for the technique he is most known for. I have never seen a hair clip by him before, so it’s a nice addition to any Tommy Singer collection. Track Page Views With. Auctiva’s FREE Counter.
