Very Rare, Authentic, Hidatsa / Mandan Missouri War Axe Tomahawk c. 1830

Such axes are rare, as they were made in small numbers and only used by a small handful of tribes along the upper Missouri River basin. This example shows a blacksmith hand-forged iron exceptionally large size Axe Head. The huge head is decorated with deeply filed lines over the poll, plus molding sat the base of the blade. Punched dots form a cluster at the base of the blade and borders along its front and back, as well as around the piercings. The surface of the metal shows a nice patina. These piercing consist of a heart in the center and two sunbursts, one at the leading edge and one at the heel. The wooden haft is plain, It is pierced for a thong. The bison leather thong is present and in very good condition(But the thong is quite possibly a modern imitation). This is truly an excellent and early tomahawk that has been photographed and published in the book AMERICAN INDIAN TOMAHAWKS 1971 by HAROLD L PETERSON On page number 185, figure number 51. An almost identical Axe is in the collections of the American Museum of Natural History. Collected from the Osage. The axe measures 22.5 L overall with an axe head that is 9 L by 5.5 W of thin forged iron. The Axe is overall in very good condition consistence with the age. Rare Vintage Navaho Bisbee Lavender Pit Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace

Rare vintage Bisbee Navaho Lavender Pit Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace. This squash blossom necklace comes with the original appraisal dated June 10, 1974. I have included a photo of the store that I found on the web. The Jewel Box opened in May of 1949 and closed its doors in May of 2006. It was owned by Morris (Morrey) Reznik. He was well liked and was known as the Pawnfather. He passed away at age 89 in 2010. The original appraisal that you will receive was signed by Morreys wife whose name was Honeylou. The necklace is Navaho and is sterling silver. The turquoise is from the Bisbee mine which was founded in the mid 1870s. By the time it closed in 1975, it was considered to be the richest mine in the world. It produced copper, gold, silver and billions of pounds of lead and zinc. Along with the metals it produced Malichite, Azurite and of course Turquoise. In the 1950s a large deposit of turquoise was found in the Lavender Pit. Most of this turquoise was dumped with the rest of the mining waste. The story says that the miners would fill their empty lunchboxes with turquoise even though the mining companies prohibited the turquoise to be taken out by the miners due to liability issue. In the 1960s Bisbee Turquoise was considered the finest turquoise ever seen. In 1972 Robert Matthews obtained the only lease given anyone to work the debris from The Lavender Pit. The lease was for 2 years. He and his team recovered about 2000 pounds of excellent quality Bisbee Turquoise. The Bisbee Turquoise is very much sought after. Small amounts of turquoise still come out because Mine Robbers sneak into the mine under the cover of darkness to hunt for pieces of this fine mineral. Now to describe this wonderful necklace. The necklace measures 26 not including the Naja which measures 2.5 x 2.5. It weighs 240 grams. I have not cleaned the necklace. I will let you determine if you want the patina or if you want a more shiny look. Please see all the photos. There are markings on the back of the Naja. If you need more info, please ask. RARE Vintage ZUNI Sterling Silver Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace HUGE 178grms

Im proud to present this gorgeous Turquoise Bib Necklace made by Zuni husband and wife team, Valentino & Matilda Banteah. Valentino provided the silver work, while Matilda did the stone work. Hand-made with vibrant Turquoise and Sterling Silver, this necklace will be a treasured work of Art for its new owner. Its large and has some of the most vivid blue green turquoise on the market. Being over 40 years old and the stones still having this much vibrancy is a real treat. It doesnt get much better than this… The stones are all original and in MINT condition as they sit inside saw tooth bezels. All 163 stones are different and unique in their own way with some having matrixes and some not. The blue and green colors of the stones are bold and vividly stunning… I honestly cant say enough about them. The round pendant is very large and ornate, containing 76 stones situated symmetrically over a thick bed of silver. Valentino applied twisted rope between each circular row of stones and bordered the outer edge with silver raindrops. The top of the round pendant is soldered to a large connector which displays a large trapezoid shaped stone. The connector is able to bend freely due to the way it was made with a pin. The two side sections of the necklace contain two rows of stones. 1 row of snake eye and 1 row of petite point. Hand stampings, twisted rope, and raindrops were also applied to coincide with the pendant. Continuing upwards on this piece you will see wide flattened cable links. All of these links are soldered together with no need to worry about them pulling apart. Each flattened link displays a single snake eye stone. There are 20 total, 10 on each side. The hook and eye clasp chain is thick and sturdy with the links also being soldered shut. This item has not been cleaned or polished. It has been left in its original state. This work of Art by the Banteahs is a masterpiece, one that will last for years and be handed down for generations. Ive not been able to find a similar piece that even begins to compare.
