Proudly presented today is this superb Hopi Kachina doll, depicting the seldom carved Turquoise Nose Plug Kachina. This Kachina, which is said to be derived from one of the Colorado River tribes, appears with the Lefthanded Kachinas also among the Western tribes, and they join forces to punish the clowns, during the Plaza Dances or Mixed Kachina dances. It is a very unusual Kachina, and seldom seen. This wonderful example, standing 15 and a half inches tall, is by the talented and respected Martin Dallas. The subject matter increases it’s rarity. His main focus has been making stunning artwork handles for bowie knives. This bolo is very rare as it is in near perfect condition. With so few of these beautiful pieces ever created, they are hard to come by. This piece does not have it’s original box, instead it comes in a nice fabric covered box to protect it. The medallion measures 2 inches high, 1 ½ inches across the top, 1 ¼ inches across the bottom and? Inch thick. A 3 inch very rare Transitional Paleo Parman point made from black obsidian that glows absolutely crystal clear when backlit. This piece was found by Roy Knerium in the Burns/Crane area of Harney County Oregon. It does have some tip damage but is a very rare and highly collectible artifact that has outstanding translucency.
This is a rare early Hopi pueblo chili bowl. It looks to date to the late 19th century. It measures 8 1/4″ across by 2 1/2″ high. This pot is in all original great condition with no restoration. It shows signs of normal wear. The rim has some slight abrasion which is typical for a bowl of this age. There are no cracks. The paint looks pretty good. This is an amazing piece. I wish this could talk and tell its story, it looks very, very old. It has a patina that can’t be faked. I’m guessing the red stripe that runs through the belt loop is the result of a red belt that was dyed red and the color has seeped into the sheath with the weather. This feels like it should be in a museum, someone thought enough of this to make a stand for it.
